  • Someone we can almost relate to is introduced.

Another episode in which keeping SHADO's secrets is more important than fighting the aliens. Introduces Paul Foster who is by far the best character on the show. He actual goes out and does stuff rather than sit in HQ & yell like Straker & Freeman. The run around Foster is given is good although he points up some weaknesses in SHADO's cover. Most obvious, why didn't Straker change his name for the movie executive cover? Many people would find going from Air Force colonel to film mogul a bit of a stretch. Good thing Straker is a good judge of character.moreless

In this episode we are shown what happens to most people that say they have seen UFOs. Deny, Discredit, Intimidate & Bully. We are introduced to a new character Paul Foster a test pilot that has seen UFOs on two occasions in the passed. He tries to prove that he saw a UFO on his test flight and as the story progresses he discovers all of the evidence has been removed or doctored. This episode demonstrates how a secret organisation with power and trained operatives can take control of the events in an individual’s life and guide them to what ever point the organisation choosesmoreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (1)

    • The following books are seen in Fosters apartment: "The Flying Saucer Story", "Unidentified Flying Objects", "Space Weapons" and "Flying Saucers are Hostile," highlighting Foster's obsession with UFOs.

  • QUOTES (3)

    • Straker: SHADO needs men. I'm talking about leaders, commanders. Men able to captain the world's most advanced submarines, take control of Moonbase. The right men. Are you one, Foster? After the stiffest medical you've ever experienced? After weeks of computer and psychoanalytic tests? After a training course that will tear your guts out, you might be halfway there.

    • Dr. Jackson: Now I can see here you reported a sighting three years ago. And another two and a half years before that. Then we shouldn't be meeting again for another couple of years. (Laughing)

    • Foster: Look, I don't give up. I keep slinging the mud until some of it sticks! You haven't heard the last of this, Mr. "Film-Executive" Straker!

  • NOTES (1)

    • Although this was the second episode aired, it was the fifth produced and was written specifically to introduce Paul Foster. Foster was added as a character to appeal to a younger viewer demographic.
