Episode Summary

EDIT
Betty struggles with a dilemma as she attempts to bail her family out of a financial crisis while juggling with the task of planning MODE's big assistants week at a medieval-themed restaurant...where Amanda's past ties to the establishment has a link and could come back to haunt her in a surprising way. On the romantic front involving the Meade siblings, Betty tries to give Daniel advice about his endless sexual addiction, while Alexis ponders about whether she should start taking up Rodrigo's offer. Meanwhile, Hilda prepares for her first exam to determine her future at cosmetology school as Wilhelmina prepares for her future plans to take over MODE as she makes even bolder moves for domination behind the scenes.moreless

  • Betty battles the middle ages!

    10
In another great, hilarious episode, it's secretaries day! Or as Betty says it's "Administrative Professionals Day". In this episode, Hilda must face down a hair-stylist **** while Betty tries to get her family to Guadalupe so Ignacio doesn't get his ass booted back into Mexico. Betty resolves to win the money by riding a mechanical bull at a medieval restaurant, accompanied by Christina, but a jackass in the stands causes her to fall off. Henry displays chivelry but in the end gets his ass kicked. Betty eventually takes matters into her own hands and walks away empowered. Also, Hilda triumphs and Daniel sponsors the Suarez family's trip. I found this episode to be funny and heart-warming and recommend it for all Betty fans.moreless
  • Each character deals with a personal problem in what is sure to be a defining episode of this awesome series.

    9.1
As 'Ugly Betty' heads further towards the conclusion of season 1 which I am very much looking forward to seeing the show just seems to get better and better.

This episode superceeded my expectations. First of all, Betty's comment to Daniel about the glass being broken into a thousand little pieces and she's just waiting for him to step on it was a great reference as to how out-of-control Daniel's life has become but it's nice to see that as soon as he hears about Betty's father's troubles he's offering his help any way that he can. I really love that aspect of Betty and Daniel's relationship, the way they care for each other and are willing to help each other out of a crisis when it's needed.

Henry and Betty! What can I say? They always come so near and still so far. It was sweet of Henry to offer to take that mechanical bull ride for Betty and then to defend her against that jerk from Mode but I did feel bad for the two of them when Charlie showed up. But something tells me it won't be too long before Betty's romance with Henry develops. They do make a great couple and their scenes together are always adorable.

I also felt bad for Alexis when she realised Bradford's plan for her. Is he so bitter towards his own daughter that he would honestly see her shipped out of the country for good? Also, she was really falling for Rodrigo and to have him betray her like that must have made her feel terrible. Alexis hasn't had it easy since coming to Mode and she seems to be trying to prove herself all the time but I just don't see any signs of her father giving her a break. Marc and Whilhelmina- hilarious! I laughed so hard at the way Marc was so afraid to hit her at first until she told him what she knew would make his blood boil 'who do you think cancelled your subscribtion to dudecruise.com?'

I always think the best thing about Ugly Betty is how they can break up the more dramatic parts of the episodes with more hilarious scenes. They've struck a balance that is very enjoyable to watch and I hope it continues through season 1 and way into season 2.moreless
  • Middle-Age Crazy!

    8.1
Mode is planning Scretaries Day around a Medivial theme restaurant where there are plenty of stuff to do like the mechanical bull and fighting and all that stuff. Betty has continued her attempt to get her family out of a fiancial crisis. Judith Light is still in jail getting best up and I do not like the way she is treated. Alexis is having a crisis of her own over her relationship. I saw previews of next week show and I just can't wait to see Betty. I don't care! I just love the show. the best reason ever to watch television every thursday night.moreless
  • Are all soaps like this?

    7.0
Breakneck speed plot twists are starting to get a little tiresome. There, I said it. Ugly Betty is starting to get ... tiresome. Yes, they do resolve a plot twist from time to time but I'm getting a little tired of Betty needing money or moaning about the accountant (oh, for heaven's sake, girl, grab him and tell him what you want!) or worrying about her sex-a-holic boss.

It was nice to see people moving forward with their lives, even if they took baby steps. Hilda cut her nails!! Gasp!

I'm a little confused about the Alexis Meade sub-plot (or is it sub-sub-plot?) about her affair with the Brazilian Lothario. I'd have thought they'd spin that one out for at least the rest of the season, if not well into the next season.moreless
  • It's A-P Day!!

    8.2
So I wonder about those pills that Daniel got…are they real, is it a placebo. Of course give it a week and Betty will get to the bottom of it, even from Mexico. So this episode got a little soapy for me. I thought the medieval thing was funny and how Amanda was mad when she thought that everyone would mock her for her acting and then mad when she found out she was replaced. Typical Amanda. But all the drama with Wilhelmina faking the bruises and Bradford believing her and Bradford paying to get Alex to leave. All a bit too much. And I hope that Charlie just goes back home.moreless

  • ALLUSIONS (2)

    • Amanda: Welcome to the Middle Ages!

The commercial that Amanda acted in, as well as the fact that it's played on a loop outside of the restaurant, is a spoof of the fact that a recent Olive Garden commercial that Becki Newton, who plays Amanda, was in was played over and over and over.

    • Marc: That was hi- wait for it- larious!

This is a phrase commonly stated by the character of Barney on CBS' How I Met Your Mother.
