This episode of Ugly betty is really good, and it is the first episode of Ugly Betty that has major flashback scenes, it is dealt with in a really excellent way. The episode name 'Swag' is because Christina is clearing out the massive MODE closet, and the staff are going crazy to get their hands on the Swag. Christina keeps back the special Gucci bag for Betty, which Betty manages to use to her advantage, later in the episode trading it with Mark for a big favour. Daniel's credit card is frozen at the same time a famous designer comes, called Oshi and Daniel misses the chance to impress him with money. This episode has some really good lines in, the best was - Wilhelmina: Good luck returning my ass!moreless

I really liked this episode. It was the introduction of Henry and I loved it when Betty ran off with his bagel. Loved the catfight during the swag raid and how sweet it was for Christina to save the Gucci bag for Betty, although anyone who has watched more than an hour of TV knew that Betty would trade it in for her father's prescription.
Plus I don't know how anyone couldn't love the delcious tastiness that is White Castle..oh I'm sorry White Tassel. Loved how Betty and Daniel (who is kind of a sad sack pessimist like Debbie Downer sometimes) caught Wilhemina at her own game and busted her with Bradford.moreless

Great episode but was this from 4 months ago when Betty said something about 4 months ago. I kinda got confused on that part. Betty gets that cool as bag. Loved it! I can't believe Mark wanted it! He is a guy! I was really confused on the time thing but I still thought it was a good episode.

  • Filler? No, probably just a victim of scheduling. A good, solid episode, but out of sequence so it felt a bit out of place. (Meeting Henry for the first time?)

Yes it's true -- even Betty can fall victim to unfortunately scheduling. Looks like they had a Thanksgiving show in the can, but one too many episodes to the run-up. What to do?

I know! Let's take a look at which episode we can successfully edit down, add a bumper and a post, and successfully frame it as in sequence. All things considered, I think the producers and editors did a fine job in reframing this episode.

As for the episode itself, it was classic Betty (can something be categorized as "classic" in its first season?): Daniel screws something up, Betty frantically runs around and in the end, pulls out a great solution that makes everyone happy (except, usually, Wilhelmina and her cronies). It's not so much WHAT she does that makes her a Golden Globe winning comedic actress -- it's HOW she does it. She is compelling to watch, and I find I can't get enough of her!moreless

    • Swag refers to the goodies that the mode employees get to keep after they become last season's products and room needs to be made for the new season's fashion line. Edit
    • In one scene where Betty confronts Walter in Queens, a Los Angeles County MTA bus can be seen on a store window's background, which means that the scene was shot in Downtown Los Angeles. The downtown LA bus reflection was probably filmed on the east side of Broadway, between 3rd & 4th Streets. The crew was seen shooting by the poetically named "El Huarache Veloz". Edit
    • In the scene where Daniel and Betty are standing with Oshi, the translator, Marc, the entourage, and the models after they all have exited the limos at the "restaurant", the translator delivers Oshi's words, "What place is this? Where have you brought me?" That line was delivered so hilariously, that the actors playing Betty and Daniel, as well as Oshi, actually broke character and laughed. Edit
