  • The first unspectular episode Betty which gets extra marks for the introduction of Claire Meade.

    6.9
A pretty silly episode that had little purpose other than to introduce Claire Meade, sure we discovered Daniel's womanizing has consequences and Wilheimena has become a woman of 'a certain age' but these storylines felt very 'filler' and leftover. It was entertaining of course and had one or two laughable moments but it wasn't on the same league as the 3 episodes before it. The Walter storyline becomes increasingly annoying episode by episode and in this episode it kind of hit a boiling point and you just can't help despise his character. Henry and Betty's date felt like it happened very wrong and should have been delayed a few episodes but it still induced good character development. This episode certainly isn't the best episode of Ugly Betty but watching it you realize this would be a great episode for any other comedies and for it to be considered 'filler' is certainly saying something about the quality of humor and plots on this show.moreless
  • Not better than the previous 'Fey's Sleigh Ride' episode but as exciting as every Ugly Betty episode.A perfect acting again from America Ferrera.

    8.9
It's the halloween episode but i thought it would be more related with the holiday than it was but never mind Ugly Betty again gave us the excitement and the pleasure we want.

Betty's dressed as a bee is an amazing turn again showing her unique characteristics. She is very good trying to decide Henry of Walter.Betty hooking up to Henry is one of the best storylines because they are so cute together and they are may be the newest It couple for television known for their spefic awakard conversations.

I think Amanda was great that episode showing a great range of her character-the always ready to humiliate Betty Amanda and the sharing with Betty Amanda. This episode truly showed us that Amanda is not only a sexy evil doll but she has human feelings too.

Claire Meade was also lovely today competing with Wilhelmina for the spot of the villain of the epiosde.

Wilhelmina's attempts to loose wight and her weight promblems showed us again the cruel fashion world. She is amazing during her monologue about the fashion later in the episode.

The Suarez family gave us the perfcet Halloween that we want showing to the audience how the normal people celebrate the holiday while the fashion world is not.

    A normally exciting Ugly Betty's episode.moreless
  • Claire Meade and Amanda

    7.4
This episode is noteworthy to me because we find out that Amanda really is in love with Daniel. We finally get to meet Daniel's mother, CLaire, who I myself love very much. I have only seen the first few episodes but I have caught some of the end ones in reruns and I gotta tell ya I love that lush. She is very supportive and I love seeing the mom from Who's the Boss in such a different light.

Also this had the first real Betty and Henry crush dynamics happening and I like them as a couple. They aren't quite a power couple or anything, but they are so cute together.

Also loved Marc's Betty costume (as terrible as it was) and Wilhemina's reaction to it.moreless
  • Brilliant.

    9.8
A really special episode, which shows just what Ugly Betty is about and we also get to see the softer side of Amanda as well. It's halloween and betty has a very adventure filled Halloween. Her day doesn't start off very well, when she comes into work dressed up as a butterfly for the fake MODE costume contest. Then, Daniel wants her to go and get his watch. He knows he left it at a girl's apartment that he slept with that week, trouble is he slep with a different woman every night of the week and can't remember the friday girl. She travels round the city looking for his watch and arrives back at MODE empty-handed, only to discover that Amanda had it all along, the girl that Daniel couldn't remember. Meanwhile, Daniel visits his Mom in rehab and discusses his father.moreless
  • Halloween!

    8.7
It's Halloween in the show, Betty's dad is really fun to do all of that to their house and pull those funny practical jokes. Marc was so cruel to Betty, even though not directly because he dressed up exactly like her for Halloween. I have to admit that it was such a clever idea and was so funny! I really don't want Betty to get back together with Walter. They were going out for 4 years and he cheats on her and then she has lunch with another guy and he gets pissed off about it? Go figger! I hope Daniel learnt a lesson and I hope that Amanda gets with him for real, I really like her personality!moreless

  • TRIVIA (4)

  • QUOTES (21)

    • Daniel: I sent roses to those women.
Betty: Amanda sent them, yeah. You're right, you can do whatever you want, go from one person to the next, flit, flit, flit, but if you think that no one is getting hurt, you're wrong.

    • Amanda: If you get tired of watching Charlie Brown and the Great Pumpkin alone, I could come over and keep you company...in costume...or not.
Daniel: I think I just need to be alone tonight.
Amanda: Hey, we could just talk.
      Daniel: Probably not.

    • Betty: (about Daniel) Amanda, if you knew who he was, why did you get so involved?
Amanda: I thought he would get sick of serial dating. I sure as hell am.
Betty: And what if he doesn't?
Amanda: He will. I'll just wait.

    • Amanda: (on the phone) Hi there, I'm calling from the Sutton Place Medical Group. One of our patients, Daniel Meade just left here and thought we should give you a call. The good thing about scabies is that if you treat the itching right away, there's little chance of them becoming open sores. You might want to call your doctor. Okay, bye.

    • Henry: (to Betty) Just something I know. One of several things in fact. Circumference of the earth, know it.
Amanda: And this concludes another episode of true but dull.

    • Daniel: Why is this such a problem for you? I'm an adult, okay, these women are adults, believe me, I checked. No one's getting hurt, I can sleep with a different woman every night of the week because...why not?
Betty: You know the Romans had a 9 day week, you would have been a really tired Centurian.

    • Marc: (walking out of Wilhelmina's office and bumping into Christina who is on her way in) Oh, she's a little fragile today so be nice.
      Christina: I'm always nice.
      Marc: You're never nice.
Christina: You know, you're right, I was thinking about somebody else.

    • Marc: Hola! Happy Halloween! (dressed as Betty Suarez)
      Amanda: HAHAHAHA!!!
Wilhelmina: Marc! That is the absolute cruelest thing I've ever seen! (long pause) Someone's getting a raise.

    • Christina: Flit! It's what butterflies do.
Betty: Oh. I thought you were cursing at me in Scottish.

    • Ignacio: I've been using someone else's social security number for years, because I don't have one. You can't get one if you're in this country illegally…And I am.

    • Wilhelmina: I can't compete anymore with the bevy of 22 year old gym bodies. You starve yourself, you pull yourself, you inject yourself, you think you're safe, but they keep coming to the door younger and younger like a hail of bullets until down you go. Why is it such a crime to age in this business?
Christina: It's true! The standards for women are so punitive.
Wilhelmina: And whose fault is that? I set the standards. Lifetime achievement award, there's my achievement; it bit me in the ass, and the hips. Serves me right, huh?

    • Wilhelmina: I can't deny it anymore; it's happened. I've become a woman of a certain age.

    • (Talking about Daniel)
Betty: Don't you two have some kind of agreement?
Amanda: Yeah. He dates anything that moves and I agree to smile and take their messages. And now, I 'm sending them flowers too!

    • Betty: Does Daniel know that you feel this way about him?
Amanda: Please. He's Daniel Meade. Take a number and wait in line.

    • Betty: Was this all one big joke to you? Watching me run around the city in a butterfly costume, getting underwear thrown at my head, all for laughs.
Amanda: Does it look like I'm laughing?
Betty: Then why didn't you say something if you had this watch the entire time?
Amanda: Why? Maybe because I was hoping that Monday night was the one night of the week that your boss would remember...Stupid me huh?

    • Betty: You need to stop me from going to see Henry!
Christina: I thought you were resolved on that?
Betty: I was! Tell that to my finger. (holding up finger) My finger wants me to push the button to Henry's floor! It wants me to tell him that I had a wonderful time today!
      Christina: Ooh, cheeky finger.
Betty: What's wrong with me? I'm turning into Daniel, that's what! Soon I'm going to be able to juggle people's hearts like fruit and still sleep well at night.
Christina: Number one you're nothing like Daniel, and number two he doesn't really do much sleeping which is why he loses expensive jewelry and can't remember who he shagged Monday night!

    • Wilhelmina: Ow! Ow!!
      Christina: Sorry.
Wilhelmina: What are you doing back there?! Did you screw up the zipper?
Christina: The zipper is not the problem. The lack of pulley and several burley men, that's the problem.

    • Claire Meade: So why are you here?
      Daniel: Just to talk.
Claire Meade: Well I've been right here any time you've wanted to come.
Daniel: I've just been very busy the last couple of weeks.
Claire Meade: Almost four. They like to tell you just how many days you've been in so it passes by more slowly. Today is sponsored by the number 26.
Daniel: I want to talk about Faye Summers.
Claire Meade: Then I'm going to need a lunch someplace where they're not serving pudding cups.

    • Claire Meade: And this is where we come to lose ourselves in the classics
      Daniel: It's a nice collection.
Claire Meade: Nothing like making people in detox read stories cooked up by a bunch of drunks. Did your father tell you they confiscated my perfume?
Daniel: I guess they are worried you might…
      Claire Meade: What? Drink it?

    • Mark: So your date last night went well?
Wilhelmina: Oh yes…Jason dipped his toe into Lake Wilhelmina and let's just say the water was very warm.
Mark: I'm not really sure I want to know what that means.

    • Justin: Happy Hallowee-een! Guess who I am?
Mr. Suarez: Why you're a proud member of America's proud Navy sir. (salutes)
Justin: No, I'm Gene Kelly from On the Town.
Hilda: Well let's just tell them at school that you're a sailor, okay?
Justin: Fine but I'm a sailor that can sing and tap. (breaks into song and dance)
Mr. Suarez: Better hope he can sing and tap and punch.

  • ALLUSIONS (3)

    • Justin: No, I'm Gene Kelly from On the Town.

On the Town is a classic American movie musical from 1949 starring Gene Kelly, as a sailor on leave for the day. He and two other sailors - Frank Sinatra being one of them - go off into New York and have a night on the town all in their twenty-four hours of leave.

    • Claire Meade: Today is sponsored by the number 26.

This is an allusion to the children's tv show Sesame Street where each day was 'sponsored' by a number and a letter, which would become the theme for that day.

    • The title 'The Lyin', The Watch and the Wardrobe' is a pun on the book titled The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis. The book was also recently made into a blockbuster film under the same title.
