When Ignacio Suarez is sick of watching the telenovela, featuring the girl pregnant with a soccer ball, Mr. Suarez turns off the TV with the telephone - not the remote, which is sitting on the table next to him in plain view. Then perhaps, Walter messed with all the technology items in the house...
The telenovela scene featured English subtitles.
Salma Hayek, who guest stars as Sofia Reyes, also appeared in the pilot episode in the telenovela that Betty watches. She is also the executive producer of the series.
Hilda: It looks like the gay version of Star Trek.
Hilda: Betty, what are your numbers?
Betty: Well, uh, Christina bought ten dollars worth of protein bars, she likes the taste. Of course, she also eats sheep's stomach.
Daniel: We don't want anyone to get the wrong idea.
Amanda: Right, because my panties stuffed in your paper shredder probably didn't tip them off.
Wilhelmina: (answering the phone) Nico, I told you only emergencies. (listening to Nico) No. You cannot submit my apartment for 'pimp yo' house'!
Betty: (talking about Ignacio) He could be deported?
Immigration Lawyer: Very strong possibility, yes.
Betty: But, he has a family, he pays taxes, he's a Mets fan…
Hilda: He's in Oprah's book club!
Daniel: (about Sofia) She thinks I'm nothing but an unqualified himbo who got the job because of my father.
(Betty looks as if she's about to comment)
Daniel: Don't say anything!
Daniel: Books, newspapers, ABC news? I pay attention to which of those?
Betty: None.
Daniel: Exactly!
Wilhelmina: (about Betty) I don't like it when she smiles - it's so... metallic.

Wilhemina: (about Hilda) Cesar Chavez in a push-up bra.
Cesar Chavez (1927-1993) was a Mexican-American labor activist who helped found the United Farmworkers. The UFW fights for the rights of migrant farmworkers. Cesar was involved in many high-profile strikes and boycotts. Among other issues, he fought to increase wages for farmworkers and protect them from exposure to dangerous pesticides.
Hilda: Looks like a gay version of Star Trek.
Star Trek is an American science-fiction franchise spanning six television series, ten feature films, hundreds of novels, computer and video games, and other fan stories, as well as a themed attraction in Las Vegas. All are set within the same fictional universe created by Gene Roddenberry.
Amanda: Cruella de Vil can wait.
Cruella de Vil is a villain from the Disney movies related to the 101 Dalmatians. She is one of the more evil of the female Disney villains who cares more about what she wears than about the lives she steps on.
