Episode Summary

The Legend of the stone
Something is attacking miners deep in the dark caverns of a rock quarry and turning them into stone. GUTS sends in a crack investigation team. Strangely, some miners describe the monster they've seen one way, others in a different way entirely. When the monster finally does arrive to set the record straight, the GUTS team quickly dispatches it. Battlewary and unprepared, the team is taken by surprise when a second monster appears, revealing why earlier descriptions had differed. As the monster closes in, the same titan that had saved the team only days before comes once again to their rescue. In gratitude the GUTS team seeks a fitting name for this hero, finally settling on 'Ultraman Tiga'.moreless

  • Ultraman Tiga continues to grow with strong character development.

The second episode of Ultraman Tiga furthers to overall storyline quite well for a mere thirty minute episode. In this episode, Daigo who has now bonded with Ultraman Tiga learns that it was his destiny to become Ultraman Tiga thanks in part to the strange meteorite that sends a hologram to earth from last episode.

Despite the fact the final fight in this episode is one on one it's actually a step up from last episode. The first Gakuma is easily dispatched by GUTS thanks to their new retrofitted GUTS wing fighters. Gakuma 2 actually gives Ultraman Tiga a run for his money. The suit design on Gakuma looks good when filmed from higher angels but when you film low it betrays the shape of his feet. That being said Gakuma employs a number of powers for a four legged monster (the first for Tiga to fight) and puts up a good fight.

Also this episode features GUTS finally deciding to name the "Titan" and in a funny scene it is finally Daigo who suggests it and the rest readily agree. The team is complete.

Decent special effects for a 30 minute show and a decent plot make this overall a better episode than the first. 9/10moreless
