Up & Coming

Show Summary

Welcome to the Up & Coming guide at TV.com. Up & Coming debuted on PBS in October 1980. The series was about the Wilson family, an African-American family struggling between working- and middle-class in San Francisco. The show was heralded as being a realistic portrayal of an African-American family. It was funded in part by the U.S. Office of Education and was so popular that executive producer Avon Kirkland was approached many times about syndicating the show.

  • A Great Show

Used to watch this show during my Jr High/High School years. The regulars were not only excellent, but the Guest Stars, such as Esther Rolle really made the show. It didn't touch too far on race relations in so much that it touched the issues that face every kind of family that was "Up and Coming" such as issues that involved Teenage Suicide, and pregnancy, whilst talking about struggling with Mortgage payments and so on.moreless

I have been watching Up & Coming since it started here in Norway in 1991, and it just gets better and better watching it every season. It has really become my favorite TV show/soap and I now I hope to get my level up soon so I can watch it on here because I am working in the afternoon so I sometimes dont make it to be home in time so I can watch it.moreless
