    Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

    • TRIVIA (1)

      • The story of the original show started in 1903 and ended in 1929, though it was all filmed in five years. As a result, the characters didn't age properly. Rebooting the show in 2010 and setting it in 1936 solves that problem. Jean Marsh has actually reached the age her character Rose would have had by then.

    • QUOTES (3)

      • Ladty Agnes: I'm going to treat my sister to a diamond star when she comes from Wales to do the season.
Lady Holland: It's as well she comes to London. No girl gains perspective until she's transported.

      • Lady Holland: (about Mrs Simpson) I understand she's a favourite of the King.
Sir Hallam: I think you'll find she's his mistress.
Lady Holland: I know what 'favourite' means, dear.

      • Lady Holland: I find it such a help to gaze on water during awkward conversations. I had a lily pond made behind our house in Delhi. My marriage endured as a direct consequence.
