A 'fake' Visitor resistance wreaking havoc in LA, hostages taken and eliminated until Julie, Mike and Ham turn themselves in? Well, at least it's better than the usual, 'oh look someone has been captured, we'd better go to the Mothership and rescue them' scenario. When Robin was seized I was immediately apprehensive; I knew it would be an opportunity to weep and wail in that high-pitched, squeaky voice she is infamous for. I was not to be disappointed. Her rather swiftly formed relationship with heroic John the journalist was proof of the pudding as to how naïve she actually is. Not to mention how annoying. However she managed to survive so long in the resistance without being killed by one of her own, let alone Diana and her crew, is quite beyond me. Why oh why did they decide to use all that schmaltzy music when Robin and John were in a scene together? On the up side, there was a significant plot development as John the journalist is deemed cocky and rebellious enough to join the resistance. For once they actually tried to get some plot continuity between episodes.

Elsewhere, Elias' swift exit via a vaporiser was a shock. And I'd just got comfortable with the idea that they might actually giving him some lines in the episode. I always liked Elias and thought his street-wise 'gangsta' routine quite endearing. I guess his exit was really the beginning of the end. Over the previous weeks he had been demoted from a 'boy in the hood' and key resistance member to bar tender. I suppose with the bar gone, they thought it would be improbable that he could retrain in yet another career. Shame. At least Mike manages to squeeze in a rousing eulogy on his behalf. Then Julie suggesting they hand themselves in? Not likely. She obviously had a rapid change of heart though as she managed to argue so fervently in the following scene about rescuing the captives the traditional resistance way and not succumbing to blackmail. How many writers did they have working on this episode? However, at least Faye is given something to do other than wear a white lab coat. She is even given a bit more dialogue than she usually is, not bad for someone who was once considered a central character. She even managed to get watery eyed three timesa sight not seen since the original mini-series. It's no wonder Diana was such a poor shot when trying to shoot Mike from about a meter away, she really should think about removing the shades when attempting to eliminate such a prolific opponent. You really would have thought she'd have learned by now.

On the testosterone level, there is quite a lot flying about this episode: Ham battling with Kyle, Mike and his hand to hand fracas with James, Ham having a go at Willie for actually acknowledging Elias' death. It's like Fight Night. As I love the show, I can't bemoan this episode too much, I've definitely seen worse ones in the weekly spin off series.moreless
