Vacation Playhouse was a series made up of a collection of unsold television pilots that didn't make the CBS lineup.
To recoup the expense of making these shows, networks would package them into a summer replacement series, and sometimes a regular series, just to sell advertising during the show. After watching most of these pilots, the public understood why they were never picked up. But these types of programs were quite popular in the 1960s.
