Fans of Jacqueline Susann's beloved novel will find much to love here. Though the story has been updated for the 90s, all the characters are here (some with name changes), as well as a handful of new characters. Like the 1967 film, the acting is outrageously bad, and each scene contains more sleaze and cheese than the previous. Revealing first episode to this steamy late-night soap opera, features a lot of nudity, even for an episode of DOLLS. No less than 7 actors get naked! A brief preview at the end of the episode highlights even more campy fun to come in future episodes.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (1)

    • Due to it's adult content, a "Viewer Discretion" warning aired before the show in most markets. It was 1994, and the series really did push the envelope, and get away with it for the most part. However, in one episode of "DOLLS", a certain four letter word was uttered by Neely. It did not go unnoticed by TV censors, and Ms. O'Hara's choice word was bleeped out.

  • QUOTES (1)

    • The series opens with a brief narrated introduction to the series and its characters, before the first scene. Here's the complete blurb:

Narrator: Based on the best-selling novel of all time...In a world of glamour, temptation, deals and deception, three young women will struggle to realize their dreams. Hollywood, the ultimate fantasy, where success and ambition are everything, and only the strong survive. Neely O'Hara: a triple threat, singer/dancer/actress, she'll let nothing stand in her way. Anne Welles: she left her home in the Midwest to become a player behind the scenes. Jennifer North: born into a business she hates, she won't be able to resist it's lure. Helen Lawson: Jennifer's mother, a star who's seen it all and keeps on playing. Their lives, their careers, their men. Young, beautiful, ambitious, searching for ultimate fulfillment in a world, where friendship may be the only way to survive.

  • NOTES (1)

    • In both the novel and film that this series is loosely based on, the character of Jennifer North is not Helen Lawson's daughter.
