      • Historical Notes and Numbers
The Burma Campaign, fought from 1942 until the end of the war in 1945, was one of the longest-running campaigns in the Pacific Theater. It's longevity was complicated by heavy monsoon seasons and the Burmese National Army, which originally fought beside the Japanese forces. The British Commonwealth alone suffered more than 22,000 casualties in Burma, while Japan had an estimated loss of at least 31,000 troops.
