  • A very nice episode...

In this episode we get a few resourceful elements that make this the episode extremely good. There's humor, fighting, and first time encounters. When Joe winds up on an island he rips a few funny lines when he talks to himself. With a first time encounter with Gran Bruce we get to see a small amount of fighting between the two in a "hang ten dude" battle. The best part of the episode is definitely the encounter with Alastor though. Although Joe does get his toosh whooped pretty badly, we still get to see skills from both characters and in general, a great first time fight. A very superb episode.moreless

    • (After Joe has wound up on an abandoned tropical island)
Joe: Silvia, dude hang in there, okay? Wherever like, ya know, there is. It's not here, that's for sure. Not that I'm complaining yo, mhmmmmm, this place is totally ill!

    • (After Joe encounters Gran Bruce for the first time)
Gran Bruce: My name's Gran Bruce and yours is "shark food."
      Joe: Uh, It's Joe actually...

    • Joe: So, I'm Joe. My girlfriend Silvia got snatched up by this bad-guy organization called Jadow, and then taken into this, like, MovieLand. Then Captain Blue appears and gives me this V-Watch, and I'm like--bang--some hero fighting for truth and justice and stuff. Jadow's out to take over the whole world. Anyway, long story short, I'm walkin' the walk now big time!

  • NOTES (7)

  • ALLUSIONS (6)

    • Proto Man: Costume Resemblance
Viewtiful Joe's outfit has a resemblance of that to Proto Man from the Mega Man series. (This is actually another Kamen Rider reference, since Proto Man's design is also based on Kamen Rider)

    • The hero costumes worn by Joe, Silvia, and Captain Blue (among others) are clearly based on the costumes worn by the various hero teams from the Super Sentai and Power Ranger series.

    • The V-Watch bears a slight resemblance to the orignal Kamen Rider Henshin-belt.

    • One of Viewtiful Joe's moves - the Red Hot Kick - emulates the classic finishing move held by nearly every Kamen Rider: The Rider Kick.

    • The pose struck by Joe as he makes his transformation into Viewtiful Joe is almost exactly the same as the classic henshin pose from the Kamen Rider series.

    • (Viewtiful) Joe wears a large scarf with his costume , this is a homage to how Kamen Rider Ichi-go and Nii-go (as well as many other "Classic" Riders), feature a large scarf as part of their costume.
