• Not the best way to start out the series, but still good...

    7.5
While this episode does keep things pretty bland for most of the time the ending is a little more exciting. The characters' true personalities and vocabulary are probably not shown the best in this episode, and you're left pretty clueless at the end about the general stuff. We still do get a little action and suspense going at the end though luckily. There's also time for a little laugh every now and then as the episode keeps going. As stated before the end is definitely more exciting than the start, but not that exciting. This probably wasn't the best way to start things out, but it was still pretty good.moreless
  • As a pilot episode, this wasn’t too entertaining.

    6.0
The pilot episode starts off with Silvia having an argument with her boyfriend Joe on where their relationship is going. Joe is obsessed with his childhood superhero Captain Blue, and Silvia feels that he is still immature. Joe takes Silvia to the movies, where Silvia is again disappointed to see a “Captain Blue” film. However, while they are watching it, these creatures that fight Captain Blue defeat him, and to Joe and Silvia’s astonishment, one of the creatures comes through the movie screen and captures Silvia and sucks her into the movie. Immediately Robo 6, this giant red robot crashes out of the Screen, takes Joe into the movie. It is now up to Joe to find and rescue Silvia, from the creatures who are followers of something know as “Jadow”.

I haven’t played the games or had heard of Viewtiful Joe until it aired on WB. Since I knew nothing about the show or the characters, I found the storyline a little hard to follow. I still don’t know any of the bad guys’ names, except the Jokester. I’m not too sure who or what Jadow is, but hopefully, with the upcoming episodes I would be able to catch up with what’s going on. Furthermore, when Joe puts his V-Watch, he shouts out something, and it is not until I read in this forum that what he was saying was ‘Henshin-a-go-go’.

The animation is pretty good, but could be improved. I hope future episodes pick up from here, because as a pilot episode, this wasn’t too entertaining.
