  • great pilot

The pilot to this show helped keep it on the air and helped it's future on telivision. And because of that it another great installment for the Hannah barberah collection. This was a new generation to cartoons. I like when the ghosts scared a couple of wacky racers but then the gruesome twosome came in and scared the ghosts. I got a good laughf out of that one. I like how they barely spend anytime naming the charectors and just get right to wacky racing. The funniest part had to be when dick dasterdly could have one but got out of his car to pose for the picture.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (9)

    • 101B: While Dastardly was approaching Spookane and commenting to Muttley about how that was a perfect place for a dirty trick, Muttley's ears were brown like his fur but they're black in the rest of the episode.

    • While the replay at "Creepy Trip to Lemon Twist" shows Dastardly stretching his car to make it seem like he crossed the finish line first and the car is seen stretched after Rufus is announced as third placer, the original crossing, is we pause it or show it at slow motion, shows that Dastardly had indeed crossed the finish line first.

    • Look closely; during the freeway cloverleaf segment where all of the vehicles except for Dick Dastardly's is going around in circles, some of the cars appear on-screen twice (at the same time) on different parts of the freeway cloverleaf.

    • 101B Goof: After the two ghosts scare the Slag Brothers out of the ghost town of "Spookane", their Bouldermobile is shown among a large group of cars again approaching the same town.

    • Near the end of the race a pink train goes by and it says HB probably meaning Hannah-Barbera.

    • During the show's development, Muttley's name was originally "Sniffer." Also, each of the Ant Hill Mob had names when they starred a year later on The Perils Of Penelope Pitstop--Clyde, Dum Dum, Snoozy, Zippy, Pockets, Softy and Yak Yak. During development of Wacky Races, their names were Clyde, Ring-A-Ding, Rug Bug Benny, Willy, Mac, Kurby and Danny. Only Clyde and Ring-A-Ding were ever identified by name when the show made it to the air.

    • 101B: Dick Dastardly crosses the finish line but is disqualified for extending his car's "nose" to trick viewers into believing he crossed first.

    • In 101 a the map of the race shows a town called Hanna. Clearly a blurb for Hanna of Hanna-Barbera.

    • In 101B, Red Max is flying at the beginning, yet he can only glide in every other episode.

  • QUOTES (2)

    • Announcer: (after the cloverleaf crisis has been averted) How about that?! In all the excitement, Rufus Roughcut and Sawtooth have moved way out in front.
Rufus: You can say that again, fella!
(he laughs, until the Buzzwagon crosses a bumpy road)
      Rufus: W-w-w-what's goin' on?!
Announcer: Looks like #10's hit a rough spot in the road!
(Sawtooth tries hammering the Buzzwagon to keep it together while Rufus continues driving)
Rufus: And the winner will be #10, driven by...! (reacts) YEOW!!
(Sawtooth pries off a nail that he accidentally hammered onto Rufus' butt; immediately afterwards, the other racers pass the Buzzwagon)
Announcer: That was a bad break for the Buzzwagon.

    • Announcer: (at the final stretch of the race) Here they all come, racing for the finish line! It's #2 in the lead, #10 2nd, #4 3rd, and 00: Dick Dastardly is passing them all. Now it's neck and neck! It looks like a photo finish!
Dastardly: Did you say "photo finish"?
(the cars cross the finish line)
Announcer: It is a photo finish! And in a few moments, folks, we'll have the picture. And the winners are: #4 with Red Max. 2nd: #2: The Creepy Coupe, and 3rd: Rufus Roughcut. And can you believe it? Dick Dastardly stopped to pose for his picture. (laughs) Oh, the big ham!
      (Dastardly and Muttley laugh)

    • In 101A (See-Saw to Arkansas) They are headed for "Mustard Spread Arkansas"

    • In 101A you can see the Creepy Coupe has 4 thing it can do, Dragon Power (Allows them to fly or go fast), Monster Power (Never Used), Bat Power, and Horror Power.
Also you may notice they have a speed limit bar, two other bars next to it, and a design below it forming a mean face and what appears to be bat wings coming out from the face.
