"Don't you see? It's not just our problem. If we lose this war, we lose the entire planet." After a sneak operation against the aliens fails, the Blackwood team consults a language expert to help decipher the aliens' transmissions. When they take him back to the Cottage to use their supercomputer, things begin to fail to add up. After Ironhorse, Harrison and Suzanne arrive to what appears to be a trap in waiting, they realize that Adrian is an alien set to infiltrate their information and rush back to where he is with Norton and Debi. Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (2)

    • In the finale scene with Ironhorse, Harrison, and Norton, there's a last shot on Harrison in which you can see a boom mike peek out over his head.

    • Adrian seems to have kept any radiation sores from sight, but within minutes of Norton fighting him off, there is suddenly a noticable sore on his neck. It's clear as he goes after Mr. Kensington in the elevator.

  • QUOTES (4)

    • Adrian: I have three doctorates and I'm blindfolded in a back of a van on my way to fight extraterrestrials. What is wrong with this picture?

    • Ironhorse: You understand the need for maintaining the secrecy of our location.
Adrian: Of course. Anyway, I like being blindfolded in the back of a van. It's my idea of a good time.

    • Norton: My teacher always said, "Endeavour to surprise your opponent."
Ironhorse: This staff has an iron core.
      Norton: Surprise.

    • Adrian: No need to be scared. We both want the same thing: peace and cooperation.
      Norton: Give me a break.
Adrian: It's all over. You lose.
Norton: I only lose if you get out of here. And you have to get past me.
      Adrian: You and your wheelchair.
Norton: Yeah, me, and my wheelchair, and my staff.
Adrian: Your piece of wood doesn't intimidate me.

  • NOTES (6)

    • Michael Rudder is not featured in this episode. However, since this episode was produced sometime after "The Prodigal Son", in its proper order, he most likely had already left the show at this point.

    • This is the last episode to feature Mrs. Pennyworth.

    • This episode marks the death of Mr. Kensington.

    • This episode marks a redesign of the main credits. The changes are subtle, but are as follows:
-The sound effects of the explosions in the very first shot sound different.
-The sound of the machine crashing into the side of the building is completely replaced with the sound of the humming of the machine.
-Blackwood's opening narration is phrased a bit differently with the line now phrased "more terrifying than ever before," and speaking with a slightly differing pace.
-The music sounds a bit different as well; another drum line added, and the music continues longer after the "War of the Worlds" title appears.

    • The information Harrison gives Adrian about the aliens being from Mor-Tax and there being millions on their way gives away that this episode is set sometime after "The Prodigal Son", but aired out of order since it was Quinn in that episode who gives Blackwood these same facts and there's no indication that he or anyone else knew before this episode.

    • The actor Cedric Smith, who plays Adrian in this episode, is in real life married to Catherine Disher, who plays Mana in the second season.
