"Fish out of Water" was a good episode in season 4 of the series. It had everything that fans of Water Rats had come to know and love. Action, drama, romance, humour and good old sexual tension.

Once again, Jack Christey (Steve Bisley) and Rachel Goldstein (Catherine McClements) are caught in the thick of the action during a robbery. And when Rachel is shot at, Jack takes it into his own hands to make sure that the man responsible for shooting at her, is charged with attempted murder.

Meanwhile, Tayler Johnson (Raelee Hill) is trying her best to get into the police divers section, by doing a tough divers course. She is distracted however, by a man named "Fish" Wilson, who little does she know, is a corrupt cop. On what was supposed to be a romantic dive between the two of them, Fish goes missing causing Tayler to panic. She eventually discovers the truth about Fish and also finds out that he had a wife.

Back to Jack and Rachel... they manage to get a description of a man who sold a gun to the man who shot at Rachel. The description - "Fat, bald and ugly." They find a man who fits the description onboard a boat, bleeding after he was shot in the bum.

The "fat, bald and ugly" man gives Jack and Rachel two orange "shell" suits as a thank you gift, telling them that they look good together when they hold their suits up against their bodies. And the sexual tension between the two (who in the past had a brief affair) is made obvious, when in the end, Jack tells Rachel that she owes him a beer, but settles for a draw so they have to buy each other drinks.

It was good to see Rachel and Jack getting along again (after the previous episode, where they were getting under each others skin).moreless

    • [Jack and Rachel are going through some photos of ugly men]
Jack: I dunno where to start. Is that ugly enough?
      Rachel: [pulls a face]
Mick: You going through your family tree, Jack? Or are you looking for a new man, Goldstein?

    • Jack: Ah! You owe me a beer!
Rachel: Why do I owe you a beer?
Jack: Because if we hadn't have charged Rowan Kelly with shooting with intent to murder, he wouldn't have lead us to the gun dealer, Johnny Cava.
Rachel: Oh you are joking! You were the one who said chasing the guy who sold Kelly the guns was a side issue. I remember.
Jack: [laughs] Okay. Well let's call it a draw.
Rachel: Okay, but you do the first round.
Jack: Yeah, no worries. Boutique beers on your shout.
Rachel: Oh, then you're buying your own. It's gotta be on tap or nothing at all.
      Jack: Okay, let's go.
Rachel: Right. I just gotta send these.
Jack: We'll never get there ...
      Rachel: You gotta pen?
      Jack: It's gonna be closed.
      Rachel: You gotta pen?
Jack: I'll give you a hand.

    • [Rachel and Jack are holding their "shell suits" against themselves]
Johnny: You two look good together.

    • Johnny: What was the description of the bloke anyway?
Rachel: [hesitates] Well, you don't exactly fit it ... but ... fat, bald and ugly ...

    • Jack: Is that decaf?
Rachel: Did you want decaf? [long pause] Yeah, it's decaf!
