Episode Recap

Arnold has been helping Mary Johnson at her uncle's mail-order business. They have been working late, so Arnold is not getting enough sleep. The fact that he has a job makes the other Sweathogs face the fact that Arnold is growing up. That night, he gets there late because he fell asleep at dinner. He tells Mary that their working together is like they are going steady. She says that they have been for a while and he says, 'Why am I always the last to know?' The next day his head is in the clouds, stopping to smell the roses and getting late to class that is being taught by Julie because the regular teacher has the flu. Woodman calls Arnold to his office and tells him that he is being transferred after his mother married a blackjack dealer in Atlantic City. Arnold says he doesn't want to go but Woodman, happy that he is getting rid of a Sweathog, has signed the transfer papers and says he has no choice. He goes to work but does not tell Mary about the transfer. He wakes up there the next morning and misses Mary's report on Napoleon. When Julie asks for questions, Mary reveals that she has heard about the transfer and the questions become more personal between them until it turns into Arnold asking Mary to marry him and her saying yes. Following are highlights from Part Two, including the boys talking about the wedding, Gabe telling Arnold he believes in love, Woodman coming to the wedding, and Arnold leaving and apparently joining the Marines.
