  • Favorite animal is the wolf and favorite monster is the werewolf

The pilot for this series better than some big screen werewolf movies. It was a great start for an incomplete series. The show was cancelled before getting a proper finale. Werewolf had a great cast with John York, Lance LeGault and Chuck Connors. It had high quality acting, special effects and stories. I was worried about Chuck Connors abruptly leaving the show. My concerns were well founded by the next episode that dealt with the end of Connors' character, Skorzeny. It seemed rushed and poorly put together. Its as if FOX turned its back on this series after Chuck Connors left the show just as an excuse to cancel it.
  • A great show that should have never been canceled.

I have watched this show over and over and can't figure out why they would ever think of canceling it. It has a wonderful story line and great actors that add to the exitement. I love the times when they show the actual transformation of the wolf. It was underappreciated then and now. Maybe if they had fixed the filming then it would have done better. There aren't many werewolf series so this was truly a treat to see. Loved the actors, loved the story, loved the costumes, loved every episode. It should never have been taken off the air. Great show!
  • A great fantasy adventure that was cut short.

Eric Cord plays a young man searching for an evil werewolf to kill so he can be cured after he is bitten by his roomate
who attacked him as a werewolf. Killing the evil head werewolf was the only way to rid the curse. The evil, head,
black werewolf played by the late Chuck Conners was a strong point of the show and when his character was killed off for a new lead werewolf the show went down. Chuck Conners character Skorzeny kept you glued to the screen but even the few episodes he was in did not get enough screen time. Great werewolf fights but short as Eric travels the country looking for Skorzeny and encounter other evil werewolves to kill on Skorzenys path. Also Eric is pursued by a bounty hunter for the murder of his roomate that made Eric a werewolf. Another point that may have hurt the series was that it was only 30 minutes to get the story told
but a majority of the stories were good.
  • One of the best when it comes to horror on TV

    9.2
Horror on TV is nothing new but personally I don't think they came any better then ' Werewolf '. How many out there actually remember calling the 800 number given during the show to hear about the latest werewolf sightings in your area. Even to this day, I still fear driving Mission Road from Interstate 15 toward Fallbrook at night.

The only minus was the show was only 30 minutes and by the time your girlfriend was grabbing you real tight, it was over. This is a show which I think would have done better had it been 60 minutes.

this was one of the shows that put fox on the map. the special effects were crude, but it was the mid eighties. it is too bad the show did not last longer. i did not get to see all the episodes, but maybe someday it will come out on dvd.
  • She returns home and she is bringing her mum with her.

    8.8
She returns home and she is bringing her mum with her. Everyone is pleased to see they gives her a big hug. She asks himif she can ever forgive her for lying and he tells her the only way she can is if she tells the truth about the baby. But She tells her she can not do that because then he will never forgive her for lying to him.
  • An early trendsetter for Fox, with its dark, gritty look and feel that would set the table for later shows such as The X-Files and Millenium. It was unique in that for a show of its genre the episodes were only a half-hour long.

This was and still is one of my favorite shows ever, and hardly anyone my age has ever even heard of it. Good special effects for 1987, with darkly lit atmospheric visuals and the music to go along with it. The creatures were frightening and certainly did their job. The pacing was quick, and whatever the episodes lost in suspense was made up for with the general darkness and creepiness of the show. The bounty hunter Alamo Joe was just as fearsome a villain for Eric as Skorzeny was. This was one of the darkest and scariest shows on tv in its day, and had its own mythology that its fans would remember for a long time. Although it lasted only one season, the show did not deteriorate as it likely would have in a second season, as the show revolved around one character.
  • Good Werewolf vs Evil Werewolf plus Bounty Hunter!

I first saw this show when it orginally aired back in 1987 and after it was cancelled never saw it again, which was too bad because the show albeit slow was pretty good, also the lack of gore but that is expected considering it was on TV in the 80's. The show was pretty well written as far as keeping suspense, I always remembered having to wait for the next episode to see the conclusion but never really concluded anything always added to the suspense again. All and all it was a pretty decent show, if you ever can get a chance, watch it!
  • Fox's trend of cancelling genre shows without giving them a chance began almost immediately. As part of their very first primetime lineup, Werewolf helped put Fox on the map, but even in their first year they cancelled a promising show before its time.

Werewolf was yet another show in the vein of The Hulk and The Fugitive (which really started the sub-genre). A lonely and haunted man, following something/someone (in this case, Skorzeny) and being followed by something/someone else (in this case, Alamo Joe). This format is a strength, in that it's easy to get your protagonist into any situation you can imagine by having him wandering into a different town or city each week. However, it is also a weakness because you eventually want to be able to wrap up the main story (have the hero find what he's looking for) but when you do the show is over.

The only way to make the format work is to keep the core situation as interesting as possible. Having your hero occasionally turn into a monster (like a giant, green Hulk or a big hairy werewolf) is a pretty good way to do that. In this case, the werewolf effects were designed by Rick Baker (the genius behind the effects in "An American Werewolf in London") and implemented by Greg Cannom (who cut his metaphorical teeth working on the original "The Howling"), so the creature looked about as good as it is possible for a werewolf to look on a TV budget. The stories were tense and creepy, the action was exciting, and the characters were (mostly) fascinating.

So why was there only one season of this series? Well, after one of their half-hour comedies failed, Fox decided that they wanted an hour-long drama rather than the 30 minutes that Werewolf took up. They told series creator Frank Lupo that he would have to make the show 60 minutes long next season. He told them that he couldn't maintain the same level of tension over 60 minutes that he could over 30. The executives demanded that he either increase the show's length or end the series. As a result, Werewolf was yanked from production during the summer hiatus after a very promising first season (with some of the best ratings on the fledgling network).

    The first soldier to fall.
  • Eric Cord is transformed into a werewolf by his roommate. Eric must then stop Skorzeny the one who started it all, while avoiding a tenacious bounty hunter.

    6.1
For the time this show had excellent special effect, the writers did a good job trying to keep the stories new while having a background story. It was very much like the x-files without the publicity. The biggest problem was with the background much like wanting Mulder to just find his sister already. You wanted the meeting between Skorzeny, and Eric. Also after awhile the flavor of the week rescue story got tiring, a la incredible hulk the mistaken monster with no control over his fate tries to do a good deed and be a hero. However overall if you are a fan of horror or scifi it was a good show.
