This was a great example of the potential of the Werewolf storyline. Eric is always fighting the Wolf inside, and this fact is what prevents him from being a true monster. By contrast, Hugo Borchardt embraces his inner darkness, thus making a perfect foil for Eric. Both men were twisted by forces outside of themselves, both were turned into something other than human, but Eric has managed to hold on to what truly matters and that is what makes him noble.

This episode also highlights the effect of the 30-minute timeslot on a show of this nature. The short time means that we get very little character development except in flashes. We must rely more upon the visual medium than on dialogue. But the vignette feel of the show serves to ratchet up the tension nicely. Frank Lupo was right not to let Fox expand this show to 60 minutes. Something vital would have been lost.moreless
