ADD NOTES- FLIP REPORT: John flipped the remaining cards for the first contestant at seven down. The panel got hung up on a question of costuming and didn't guess that the contestant might work with an animal until just after the cards were flipped over. In the second game, John flipped all of the cards for the second contestant after Dorothy guessed her line without receiving a single "no" answer. This game was intended as a sort of a trick, since this contestant was a flight attendant on the flight that took Dorothy and Bennett to Chicago the previous week. Dorothy, however, said that she didn't recognize the contestant and identified her because she had the "neat, efficient, glamorous look of the airline hostess." Finally, John flipped the remaining cards for the final contestant at five down. The panel only had about three minutes for this game and never really came close to guessing the contestant's line. - agent_0042 (2008) Edit
- (1) "WML?" SPONSOR WATCH: For the program's return to the familiar environs of the Big Apple, the main sponsor this evening is Remington electric shavers. (2) For the only "WML?" appearance of Silvana Mangano, the "Famous Italian Star" overlay was an upper-third, seen as she was signing in on the board, while her misspelled name "Sylvana Mangano" was the typical lower-third layout, seen as she was taking her seat; both overlays were set in Futura Demi Bold. In 1956, Signora Mangano appeared in a film titled "Uomini e lupi," whose U.S. title was "Men and Wolves." That movie's star, Yves Montand, went on to be a "WML?" mystery guest on EPISODE #586 of October 22, 1961 and EPISODE #849 of February 12, 1967. However, another co-star, Pedro Armendariz, made no appearances whatsoever on "WML?" (3) Meanwhile, the occupation overlay screen for the final contestant, "Lifeguard at Y.M.C.A.," was set in the customary "last-minute" font. (4) "WML?" CREDITS CRUNCH WATCH: For the travel arrangements plug for American Airlines, an earlier art card (with a picture of one of the company's fleet of planes) was shown, and the end credits only went up to the "In Association with the CBS Television Network" art card. Regardless, GSN maintained its perfect record of aggravating its viewing audience on its September 27, 2008 airing of this episode by its persistent "crunching" of the screen. (5) ANOTHER DOUBLE-DOSE OF "Q-SIE" - AND THE START OF A NEW ERA ON "TNTS": Following GSN's September 27, 2008 airing of tonight's show, the cable and satellite channel reran the February 9, 1954 edition of "The Name's the Same," hosted by Robert Q. Lewis. This was the first episode with a four-person panel, assembled at this point as Basil Rathbone, Bess Myerson, Gene Rayburn and Joan Alexander. It was on "TNTS" that Miss Myerson truly cut her teeth as a Goodson-Todman panelist, five years before joining "I've Got a Secret"; only Mr. Rayburn and Miss Alexander were left remaining from the former three-person panel configuration. For this particular turning point in "TNTS's" history, the celebrity guest was Mickey Spillane, author of the "Mike Hammer" series of books. - W-B (2008) Edit
- WELCOME HOME PANEL AND WELCOME BACK Q-SIE!!! This was the panel's homecoming show after being in Chicago the previous week. Always welcome, veteran guest panelist Robert Q. Lewis returned to the show after being away for three months. As for the games themselves, the panel had a pretty decent showing this night. In the first game, the panel was run through the ringer by the nurse who took care of the baby gorilla. In fact, they were so far off track that John threw in the towel and flipped over all the cards. As for the second game, John took a big chance by not blindfolding the panel for the pretty female flight attendant. However, he took the chance and Dorothy correctly identified the "stew" on her own. Interestingly, even though she didn't recognize Miss Dawn from her Chicago flight, she did correctly identify her occupation based on her looks, or at least that's what she claimed. In any case, John flipped over all the cards to show what a good sport he was. In the mystery guest round, the panel must have gone through every Italian actress from Sophia Loren to Anna Magnani before Robert Q. called a well-timed conference and correctly identified Silvana Mangano. The real fun came in the final game when the charming Y.M.C.A. lifeguard came out. Unfortunately for the panel, they ran out of time so he won the full prize by default.
