It was very interesting and historic to see the secretary to the Duchess of Windsor. The Duchess of Windsor was the American-born Wallis Simpson (06/19/1896 to 04/24/1986). When King Edward VIII of Great Britain insisted on marrying her, he was forced to abdicate the throne. This was due to the fact that Mrs. Simpson was a divorced woman. After the abdication, he became the Duke of Windsor. Although she took the title of Duchess of Windsor, she would not be given the title of Her Royal Highness. They were shunned by the Royal family members. Exiled, she and Edward lived mainly in France and became prominent in international social circles. She was not officially invited back to Britain until 1967. She attended Edward's funeral in England in 1972, and was buried next to him at her death. - Suzanne (2003)
