  • Trivia

  • Quotes

  • Notes

    • FLIP REPORT: In the night's first game, John flipped the remaining cards for the first contestant at five down. Arlene Francis correctly figured out that this contestant wrote a column, but wasn't given a chance to come up with the fact that it was a football column. - agent_0042 (2009)

    • (1) BACK IN THE SADDLE AGAIN: After skipping tonight's show in 2005 for the Halloween special, GSN aired this episode in regular rotation on March 18, 2009.
      (2) "WML?" SPONSOR AND ANNOUNCER WATCH: Once again tonight, for the eighth consecutive week in this stretch, Sunbeam is the sponsor. And this episode marked the return of both regular announcer Hal Simms and the variant "award-winning 'What's My Line?' panel" wording.
      (3) ARLENE DAHL: This was the actress' third and final "WML?" appearance -- two, including tonight, as a mystery guest, and the other in a cameo appearance with her then-husband, Fernando Lamas, from whom she would be divorced in 1960. That marriage produced a son, Lorenzo Lamas (born 1958), who would later become an actor himself, co-starring in the 1981-1990 nighttime soap "Falcon Crest" as "Lance Cumson," and later on such other shows as "Renegade," "The Immortal," and "The Bold and the Beautiful." Miss Dahl gained some notoriety in 1962 when she posed semi-nude for Playboy magazine in its December 1962 issue; in later years, she became a business entrepreneur, running a cosmetics and lingerie firm called Arlene Dahl Enterprises.
      (4) "WML?" CREDITS CRUNCH WATCH: After the travel arrangements plug for United Airlines, the complete end credits are shown tonight, with one of the "WML?" title cards following the art card slide crediting technical director Vernon Gamble and lighting director Charles Reinhard. For GSN's own selfish and nefarious purposes, tonight they ushered in a "perfect storm" by inflicting their turbulent "credits crunch" on their hapless viewing audience when this episode was aired on March 18, 2009.
      (5) Following GSN's March 18, 2009 airing of tonight's show, the cable and satellite channel reran the November 5, 1959 edition of "To Tell the Truth," hosted by Bud Collyer, with the panel of Polly Bergen, Don Ameche, Kitty Carlisle and Tom Poston. The first game featured Chuck Weiss (aka Charles Weiss; inventor of the "Aroma-Rama" process that was employed for the movie documentary "Behind the Great Wall," which is listed in IMDb under its original Italian title "La Muraglia Cinese"; the process of "Aroma-Rama" was along the lines of, but not the same as, "Smell-O-Vision" that was used for the 1960 film "Scent of Mystery") and two impostors; the second game featured Mary-Scott Welch (spelling and punctuation verified; a magazine editor, author and ghost-writer who recently penned a book, "The New Esquire Etiquette"; she later became involved with the National Organization for Women) and two impostors; and the third game featured Pyotr Deryabin (aka Peter Deriabin; a Soviet spy who defected to the United States in 1954 while working as a KGB agent in Vienna, Austria; he later became a CIA agent; shown onscreen was a photograph of a 1959 book he had co-authored, "The Secret World: The Terrifying Report of a High Officer of Soviet Intelligence Whose Conscience Finally Rebelled," by Peter Deriabin and Frank Gibney) and two impostors. The associate director for this "TTTT" episode was John Kuehn, who served in that capacity on two 1963 "WML?" editions, EPISODE #652 of February 17, 1963 and EPISODE #675 of August 4, 1963. - W-B (2009)

    • GSN'S 2005 HALLOWEEN SPECIAL: This episode was seen on GSN on September 17, 2003. On October 30, 2005, which would have been the next "regular rotation" broadcast, GSN did not air this episode. Four episodes of "WML?" were skipped to air GSN's 2005 HALLOWEEN SPECIAL. Instead, the following shows were seen on the following dates. - Suzanne (2005)

      10/29/2005 = EPISODE #460
      10/30/2005 = EPISODE #536
      10/31/2005 = EPISODE #341
      and a "double bill"
      11/01/2005 = EPISODE #405
      11/01/2005 = EPISODE #224

    • After Perian Conerly's game, her husband Charlie Conerly (Charles Albert Conerly, Jr. 9/19/1921 - 2/13/1996) made a brief appearance. That very day, he had been awarded the Jim Thorpe Trophy as the NFL's Most Valuable Player. He was a quarterback and played for the New York Giants from 1948 to 1961. He was inducted into National Football Foundation Hall of Fame in 1966. He also was known as Chuck Conerly. - Suzanne (2003)

Arlene Dahl promoted her appearance in the 1959 Jules Verne science-fiction film, "Journey to the Center of the Earth," in which she co-starred with James Mason and Pat Boone. - Suzanne (2003)

Tidbits: Tomorrow, John Daly is leaving for Paris, France to attend NATO meetings. - Suzanne (2003)

Panel: Arlene Francis, David Niven, Dorothy Kilgallen, Bennett Cerf.
