      WTVR, Channel 6, first signed on in 1947 and was the first television station south of Washington, D.C. to go on the air. WTVR has been the primary CBS affiliate since 1960; before that, it had affiliations at different times with all three original networks, including a secondary affiliation with DuMont. Up to this point, WRVA-TV (now WWBT), Channel 12, had been the CBS affiliate for the past four years. - W-B (2007)
