What's My Line?

Season 13 Episode 20

  • Notes

    • This was a highly unusual night due to a couple of factors. One was that Arlene was in Phoenix performing in a play; another was that Bennett was not sitting in his customary anchor position. Instead, the panel seat closest to John's desk was filled by guest panelist Johnny Carson, who had the honor of introducing John Daly. Another interesting thing about this episode was the fact that Dorothy was the only female on the panel. All of these factors might have contributed to the panel's poor showing this evening in the "win department." However, things did get off to a good start when Johnny, with a big assist from Dolly Mae, correctly figured out that the first contestant was a gondolier from Venice, Italy. Unfortunately, that was the only highlight. In the second game, the panel was totally stumped by the inventor of a cow washing machine. Dorothy got the closest to identifying his line when she figured out that the product the contestant dealt with had something to do with cows. The mystery guest round, featuring Tuesday Weld, was even more of a disaster. Compounding matters was that guest panelist Dana Andrews voluntarily disqualified himself from this round. After the round, he explained that he and Tuesday have the same agent. He said that he was able to discern that the guest was Tuesday from something his agent had said to him. Tuesday Weld was on the show to promote the film "Bachelor Flat." She did a great job fooling the panel with a cute "little girl voice" and it really mystified the panel. Hopefully, when Arlene returns, they will do a better job and begin to win more games. - Sargebri
