GOOF: John made a small mistake at the beginning of the program. He said that the panel would meet a mystery challenger after the sponsor message. He corrected himself afterwards, saying that they would start as usual with a regular contestant. - agent_0042
Bennett: I once had a used boomerang. Couldn't get rid of it. Kept coming back to me every time I threw it away.
FLIP REPORT: John flipped all the cards for the first challenger at seven down. Bennett had correctly ascertained, though, that she was the "pilot or captain of a ship." The cards were also flipped for the final challenger at seven down because time ran out. Dorothy correctly guessed her occupation afterwards, though. - agent_0042
WELCOME BACK DOLLY MAE!!! After a week away from the show due to illness, Dorothy has returned to the show. Also joining the panel on this night is the original host of the "Today" show, Dave Garroway. As far as the panel's performance, this was a mixed bag, as they had a .500 night. In the first game, Bennett was given credit for correctly guessing that the young co-ed from Maine was the captain of a boat, even though he didn't specifically say she was a fishing boat captain. In the second game, another student came on to try to fool the panel. However, he had more success, as the panel failed to guess that he made boomerangs. In the mystery guest round, Bennett once again was successful as he identified Jerry Lewis. Jerry joked around with the panel by saying that he really didn't have anything to promote and that he was working on a book which he still hadn't completed as of his appearance on the show. However, he did promote an upcoming engagement where he was appearing with Count Basie and his orchestra. In the final game, the panel ran out of time, so the female judo instructor won the full prize by default. - Sargebri
KILGALLEN WATCH!!! Dorothy missed the previous week due to what was said to have been an illness. However, the previous two weeks before that, she was noticeably slurring her words as well as stumbling in her speech. She also seemed to be doing this on her return to the panel this evening. These are just more signs that she was once again falling off the wagon and that she would eventually return to the LeRoy Sanitarium in March 1963. - Sargebri
(1) Tonight's show had a reunion of sorts, as Arlene Francis and guest panelist Dave Garroway were part of NBC's morning television lineup of the 1950's. Garroway was the original host of the "Today" show from its debut in 1952 until his departure from the program in 1961, while Arlene was hostess (or "editor-in-chief") of the TV series "Home" which ran from March 1, 1954 to August 9, 1957. After the run of "Home" ended, Arlene hosted a talk show, "The Arlene Francis Show," which ran in the mid-mornings on NBC from August 12, 1957 to February 21, 1958. During the introductions, Mr. Garroway mentions that he and Arlene will be co-hosting the upcoming Miss Universe pageant which will be held in Miami Beach, Florida.
(2) "WML?" SPONSOR WATCH: Tonight's "WML?" sponsor, Kellogg's, has reverted to the old panel desk advertising layout, which they had used up to EPISODE #609 of April 15, 1962. Shown is the sponsor's "Kellogg's" name logo with pictures of the sponsor's product, boxes of cereal, on each side of the panel desk, and the words "presents WHAT'S MY LINE?" below the sponsor's logo. It appears that this earlier layout is now being used when the cereal maker is alternating with Allstate Insurance as the "WML?" sponsor, while the newer "streamlined" look of the Kellogg's logo on a simple rectangular board mounted on the panel desk is used when other alternating companies are sponsoring "WML?"
(3) As tonight's end credits indicate, Bob Barry is credited as lighting director, filling in for Ralph Holmes. - W-B
Jerry Lewis promoted his upcoming July 7, 1962 appearance at Randall's Island, NYC. - Suzanne
Dave Garroway (7/13/1913 - 7/21/1982)
