      • REVIEW: After two weeks of near stellar performances, the panel came crashing down to earth with a rather poor performance. In the first game, the panel was absolutely stumped by the gorgeous Norwegian radio operator. It later was revealed that she came from the same hometown as Virginia Daly's grandfather. In the second game, the panel again flopped as they were stumped this time by a rather tall porpoise trainer. However, the panel's luck changed for the better in the mystery guest round as the entire panel - in simultaneous group fashion - identified screen legend Bette Davis. Unfortunately, Bette was suffering from a case of laryngitis, which was brought on by her non-stop promoting of the classic psychological thriller "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?" Ironically, she suffered from the same condition ten years earlier when she appeared on the show. After the good nights, John announced that old friend Steve Allen would be on the show next week as a guest panelist. Maybe Steverino's presence would help bring in a better performance. - Sargebri

      • As was mentioned during the post game chat, Bette Davis was on the show to promote the classic "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane," in which she co-starred with long time rival Joan Crawford. Many felt that Bette's performance in the film was a shoe-in for a Best Actress Academy Award. However, she was upset by Anne Bancroft who won for her portrayal of "Anne Sullivan" in "The Miracle Worker." However, this would spark another chapter in the Bette Davis/Joan Crawford feud. When Anne won the award, she was appearing on Broadway in the play "Mother Courage" and Joan accepted the Oscar on her behalf. Bette, showing a bit of sour grapes, later spread a rumor than Joan had kept the award and took it on a round-the-world tour. However, the rumor was false and a few weeks later, Joan presented Anne with the statuette during a curtain call after a performance of the play. - Sargebri

      • In spite of her laryngitis, Bette Davis was so graceful. On her way out, she bowed to the audience. - George Balsamo of Montgomery, IL

      • Bette Davis promoted her 1962 film which co-starred Joan Crawford, "What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?" She also had a terrible case of laryngitis! She noted that she also had a case of laryngitis when she appeared as a mystery guest ten years ago on EPISODE #123 on October 5, 1952. She blamed it all on panel, in a lighthearted way. In reality, she stated that she has just been working too hard. - Suzanne
