  • Notes

    • (1) BAD PUN ALERT: While commenting on the hot and humid weather at the time of tonight's show, Bennett, as usual, just couldn't resist making a pun on the situation, noting that John had "a wonderful sense of 'humid'." This was obviously a play on the term "sense of humor." Towards the show's close, John would use "humid" in his own pun, calling Bennett "one of the great 'humid' beings of all time."
      (2) TELEVISION HOST: During the summer of 1974, on the Saturday night edition of "The Late Show" which aired on the New York CBS flagship station, WCBS-TV, Channel 2, tonight's mystery guest, Van Johnson, hosted a series of special screenings of old MGM movies. Some of the films shown were being seen on television in the New York area for the first time ever. Among the films shown during Mr. Johnson's hosting stint were the 1932 movie "Grand Hotel" and the 1944 Judy Garland musical "Meet Me in St. Louis."
      (3) "WML?" CREW CREDITS WATCH: For the second week in a row, George Snowden is credited as production supervisor tonight in place of Gil Herman. - W-B
