  • Now see a little outcoming of a crime where the crimers aren't the culprit(s).

Before I start my review I just have to say that Shaggy and Scooby deserved to win, and did win, the contest to go to the factory. Okay here's my review:

That giftshop girl was just amazing with her escaping from her mask and personating the monster. Talk about where those people where criming the formula for Scooby-Doo snacks now all this is what I call an episode. Excellenta episode. I think we could all enjoy maybe 2, 3, 4, or even 5 more of these great episodes becasue I can't say, okay I will, I just love how great they make this seem the wife of that snozzy man was just trying to protect the factory.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (10)

    • The song played during this episode's chase scene is "Sabre Dance" by Love Sculpture.

    • Just how tall was Trudy??? When Trudy was working in the gift shop, she was taller than both Daphne and Velma. Yet when she was unmasked in the sterilization chamber, Trudy was shorter than Daphne and about the same height as Velma! (Not to mention she seemed about two feet taller when she became the second Scooby Snack monster, but we could assume it was just the way the batter was poured on her that made her look taller when she was in disguise)

Reply To Most How Tall Was Trudy? Goofs: The Chamber was at least 50cm away. She would be smaller from the camra.

    • I also noticed Trudy seemed to shrink later in the episode, but I have a theory on this. When Trudy knocks over the boxes in the gift shop, you can see she's wearing high-heeled boots. Yet when she's spying around in her sneaking-suit, she doesn't have heels at all. So what seemed like a goof may have actually been the animators paying close attention to detail.
As for how tall Trudy seemed while she was a Scooby Snack monster, watch closely when the batter is washed off her in the sterilization chamber. The extra layers of Scooby Snack batter made her look taller, but as it melts off of her, it looks like Trudy's eyes were about where the monster's mouth was.
So without her heels or Scooby snack disguise, Trudy was about as tall as Velma, which means she wasn't very tall at all.

    • Did Trudy escape in the end???

Interesting little goof - after Trudy is tricked into running into the sterilization chamber and her disguise is melted away, watch the background closely. When the Velma is questioning if Trudy's really the culprit, the door to the sterilization chamber is wide open!!! After the real monster showed up and chased the Scooby gang away, Trudy was left alone with the door open! So was she ever arrested, or did she manage to sneak out??? (This would be consistent with a growing WNSD tradition, as it seems many of the villains are allowed to get away with it in the end...Roller Ghoster...Faceless Phantom...Penelope Bailey in this very episode...)

    • I have to correct the goof about Daphne's third shoe. In "Big Scare In The Big Easy", Daphne revealed that she carries a second pair of shoes in her purse in case anything happens to the ones she's wearing. So it's possible Daphne simply replaced the shoe she threw into the gears. Let's face it, Daphne never would have sacrificed her footware so quickly unless she had a back-up pair!

    • To save Shaggy and Scooby from being thrown into an oven, Daphne throws one of her shoes into the gears to jam the machine. Yet as she talks to Shaggy, Daphne is wearing both her shoes, and a third shoe can still be seen jammed in the gears. (Reply: In some episodes, it's established Daphne carries extra shoes inside her purse.)

    • When Penelope is unmasked at the end, she is wearing a bulky protective suit to protect her from the Scooby Snack batter. Fred comments that the suit also helped Penelope look bigger and more monsterous. So how come the Trudy monster was the same size, enev though she wasn't wearing a suit???

    • In order to throw suspicion off herself, Penelope pretends to be tied up by the monster. So how did she manage to tied a rope around her arms??? Also, since she had to wear the suit to plant the batter around her, where was the suit when the gang came in?

    • When Trudy the spy found the vault, why did she pull her mask off for no reason??? It seemed very odd for her to expose her identity while trying to steal the formula, and if she had simply left her mask on, she wouldn't have needed to cover herself in Scooby Snack batter later to hide who she was. Trudy was about as effective at spying as she was working in the gift shop...

    • Did anyone else find it odd how quiet Trudy was after she was accused of being the original Scooby Snack Monster??? Watch Trudy closely after the gang tricks her into running into the sterilization chamber and the Scooby Snack batter melts off her. After exposing Trudy as a spy, Freddy accuses her of being the same monster who almost got the other spies killed, and Trudy just silently stares at him. Since Trudy wasn't really the monster, why was she so willing to take the blame for a much more serious crime??? You think she would have yelled out something like "HEY, I'M NOT THE MONSTER", instead of just letting the Scooby gang pin crimes on her that she didn't commit!

  • QUOTES (6)

    • Fred: Hey, that's my cue! Let' split up.
Daphne: Good idea. You don't mind searching alone, do you, Fred?
Fred: By myself in this haunted... Uh yeah, sure. I'm cool with that.

    • Trudy Lowe: Oh, not again!!
Daphne: (handing Trudy a purse) Can you ring this up for me?
Trudy Lowe: Today's my first day on the job, and I haven't even used the register yet... but I'll try! (Clutching her finger) Owww! You're gonna have to ring this up yourself! I gotta find a bandage!
Daphne:The service here stinks, but at least we're shopping!

    • Penelope Bailey: And I would have gotten away with it too, if it weren't for you pestering kids!
Shaggy: (offended) That's meddling kids... with a 'M'!

    • Shaggy: (to Scooby, as the Sccoby Snack Ooze Monster is following them) I smell something good... which can only mean something bad!

    • Shaggy: (after running right into the Scooby Snack Monster) Why do you have to smell so good!?

    • Shaggy: (after being rescued by Daphne and Velma) I'm so glad to see you two! (as the Scooby Snack Monster appears) But did you have to invite him!?

  • NOTES (8)

    • Second time the chase scene song has no lyrics.

    • The Chase Music: The Russian Sabre Dance

    • When Velma was in the Hygiene chamber we're her hair got wet and dry her hair looks like the hairdo of Jimmy Neutron.

    • Culprits: MONSTER #1 - Penelope Bailey, the Factory owener's daughter. Penelope pretended to be the Ooze monster to protect her father's business and scare away thieves and spies trying to steal the secret Scooby Snack formula.

MONSTER #2 - Trudy Lowe, the clumsy gift-shop girl, who was really a spy trying to steal the secret Scooby Snack formula. When Trudy was caught spying by Fred, she hid in a vat of Scooby Snack batter and disguised herself as the monster. She did this to conceal her true identity and to try to escape in the confusion. Her plan backfired when Velma tricked her into running into the sterilization chamber and then washed away Trudy's disguise.

    • Revealed at last-Who hired Trudy the Spy!!!
According to an interview in Animation Magazine, a surprise twist was cut out of "Recipe For Disaster". Originally, after Penelope was unmasked, Mr. Meister was going to walk in with Trudy the Spy and announce that she refuses to reveal who hired her to steal the Scooby Snack formula...at which point factory owner Ernest Bailey would reveal that he hired Trudy! It turns out that Ernest couldn't remember what his own formula was, and Mr. Meister was so over-protective about it, the only way he could get his recipe back was to hire his own spy! When Trudy said "I'm at the vault" in her communicator, she was actually talking to Ernest, who was noticably missing in this scene. Trudy then apologized to Shaggy and Scooby for almost hurting them and saying that she only meant to stall them and didn't realize that the conveyor belt she put them on led to an oven. At this point, Shaggy and Scooby forgave Trudy, and Mr. Meister admitted he was too over-protective of the formula, and to reward Shaggy and Scooby, he then led them to a lifetime supply of Scooby Snacks...
This part of the episode had to be cut out because the episode was too long with it in. But it makes sense when you think about it...Ernest and always seemed a little too nervous whenever someone asked him the Scooby Snack formula...almost as if he didn't really know! Also, the way the episode was aired, Mr. Meister just appears at the very end with no explanation as to where he suddenly came from, almost as if something had been cut out inbetween. It's too bad this all wound up on the cutting-room floor, as it would have been nice to know what happened to Gift-shop-girl/Spy Trudy Lowe...

    • Kids' WB! mistakenly did not air the last part of this episode on the next day, airing the ending to "New Mexico, Old Monster" instead. You can see the ending at http://alt.kidswb.com/movies/SCO_Unsolved_Reveal.mov

    • This episode is simmilar to A Pup Named Scooby-Doo episode where a Cheese Monster is ruining the Scooby Snack Factory. The Ooze Monster even resembles the Cheese Monster!

    • The third episode to air the teaser before the theme song.
