What a load of old rubbish! Just watched "Who Do You Think You Are?" on TLC. If you don't already know, this program is sponsored and presented by . The episode was about searching for the ancestors of Kelly Clarkson. She was so thrilled to discover that her ancestor, Isaiah Rose, was a Union soldier in the War of Northern Agression. She was even more delighted that he had enlisted that they showed his actual written military record. It very clearly showed that he served briefly with his first unit, deserted, and, after being missing for three years, was returned to duty with another unit.
A few days after returning to duty, he was captured and later escaped while being transferred to Savannah from Andersonville. Not one word was ever said about his desertion. Misrepresentation? Sure looks like it.
He was later shot by another Union soldier who claimed he mistook him for a Confederate. The skew was obvious.
One could as easily surmise that he was a Confederate sympathizer who was forced into the Union army, deserted, and when he was forced back into service allowed himself to be "captured" by the CSA.
If we're going to call it research, let's not ignore pertinent facts.
