Episode Summary

A ticked-off Mavis is dragged into court when a corpulent man sues her after he checks into her hotel and crashes through the room's bed -- and an intimidated Courtney must represent her against a slick, high-price lawyer who always out-wits his opponent. Aware that the plaintiff makes a living off false lawsuits, Courtney stages a mock trial to prepare his loud-mothed sister for the real thing but muzzling Mavis might prove impossible.moreless

  • Man strikes!

OK, so maybe this episode wasn't as original and amazing as the other (which are pure perfection), but this episode definitely has it's moment. It's always great to see Mavis. She is this amazing character that everyone likes although she hates everyone. Every time she's on screen I can't stop laughing. Her remarks on everything are worth noting. Courtney doubting his sister was just hilarious, and the jokes by Jadwiga (or Shaloopa or whatever (LOL!)) and Nasim just complete this episode. It is yet another great installment worth watching. Definitely better than half the sitcoms out there these days, right?.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (1)

    • Mavis says that the overweight guest is staying in room 207. After he collapses the bed, Mavis and the others go to check on him and the number on his hotel room door is 210.

  • QUOTES (7)

    • Mavis: Are you alright, sir?
Potter: No, I'm not alright. And you better get a good lawywer, 'cuz I'm suing your butt.
Mavis: OK, then you can get your own ass out of the bed.

    • Jadwiga: Everything is supersized. It is not normal to have sodas in size of bathtubs.
Nasim: Yeah but you know, it's only 39 cents extra.
Mavis: And with the money we save we can pay for our diets. Oh yeah, we've got Atkins, we've got the Zone, and of course, there's always Dr Phil, 'cuz everyone wants to look like Phil.

    • Jadwiga: What an ass! (reffering to Potter) No seriously, look at the size of that thing.
Nasim: It's like 5 of me, and 2 of you, Mavis.

    • Potter: Come on, is this gonna take a long time? Let's, let's go... (he snaps his fingers)
Mavis: Nah, nah. We do not snap at the hotel. I will cut your fingers off.

    • Potter: Potter, I've got a reservation.
Nasim: For how many? (reffering to Potter's overweightness)

    • Nasim: There are more executions in Texas than in the Middle East. I tell you, it's like, it's like the Taliban would barbecue.

    • Jadwiga: We don't have overweight people in my country, but in America, my God, you're out of control!
Mavis: You don't have food in your country!

  • NOTES (2)

    • Jadwiga: I would be a good lawyer. I used to watch The Practice until they fired the cute man McDermott.

This is an obvious allusion to the ABC drama show The Pratice and a character named Bobby Donnell, played by Dylan McDermott.

    • Episode Title: The Fat and the Frivolous
This episode's title is a play on words reference to the hit movie, "The Fast and The Furious".
