EDIT
Hit the Road, Chad
AIRED:
Samantha's boyfriend Chad writes a song just for her. Word gets around, and the tune is heard by legend Ray Charles whom Angela coerces into recording it for her ad agency. When Chad starts seeing another girl, Samantha is so infuriated she demands the recording not take place and refuses to speak to Angela unless she dumps the song. It takes a stellar performance of the song by Ray to make Samantha see that her friendship with Angela is more important than getting back at Chad.moreless

A great episode of Who's The Boss? as not only did Ray Charles guest-star, but the acting skills of Alyssa and Judith improved in 22 minutes. When Chad, Sam's boyfriend, makes a song inspired by her, and Ray Charles is interested in singing it, Angela decides to use Charles' cover of the song for her advertising agency. Chad gets caught red-handed by Sam kissing another girl, and Sam is so hurt she doesn't want Charles to cover the song. Angela cannot let this deal fall through, so she reluctantly dismisses Sam's request. It leads to one of the best scenes the show has ever put out, as both characters bring out an intensity and viciousness we've never seen from them before. Tony was effective in this episode as a peacemaker and as comic relief. In the end, Sam and Angela tearfully make up, and you can tell this isn't between two characters anymore. It's between two actresses who think of each other as family. My only regret was that Jonathan never got an apology for Sam snapping at him unprovoked. In the end, this was a masterful episode, and we saw more depth and personality being added to Sam.

In that intensely well-done scene, Sam won the battle. She said, "We're not sisters. We're not even Knockout blow.moreless
  • The best episode of Who's the Boss.

This is by far the best episode of Who's the Boss. It features the legenday Ray Charles as himself. From beginning to end he delivers great one-liners. He is absolutely hysterical. When first we see him, Angela confuses him with the typewriter repairman. When Ray goes to fix it, Angela is stunned to realize that the company would send a blind repairman. After Mona tells her who Ray is, and Ray fixes the typewriter, Angela tells him he is very talented. Ray comments that it is good to have another career to fall back on if the music thing doesn't work out. Throughout the episode he is brilliant, singing a couple of songs in the process, including one song Sam's boyfriend wrote for her. This is my favorite episode and I highly recommend it to all.moreless

    • The lyrics to "Always A Friend," as sung by Ray Charles

      You are always a friend
      Someone I can talk to
      Always a friend
Someone I can always turn to
      Time and again
When it seems as if my whole world is caving in

      You are always a friend
      Someone I can believe in
      Always a friend
      Someone I've been needing so
      Since I don't know when
A shoulder I can lean on every now and then

We've been friends from the beginning
I love the way you always smile at me
Oh can't you see I'm willing
Now my only wish is that someday I will be

      Always a friend
      Someone who'll always love you
      Always a friend
Someone who'll be worthy of you
      Right from the start
      You and me together
      The two of us forever
To see in you the love I wish you'd see in me
Babe, let it be always your friend
Let me be always your friend
