It is interesting to note that in Scenes From A Hat, Ryan says for one of the suggestions: "Guess what? I'm not doing a Hoedown tonight!" Sure enough, Ryan, though in the Hoedown game, did not actually sing in it. This may be a clue as to why Ryan has no particpation in that game. If he did actually sing something, it may have been edited out to make an inside joke referencing the Scene From A Hat.
A very unusual Hoedown in this episode! First, Drew, who had ragged on Chip earlier for his professor blunder during Title Sequence, forgets the song is supposed to be about professors. He sings about a wrestler instead! (Although, his reactions are not indicative of if he really did it by accident or on purpose. He acts somewhat as if he really did mess up, but, somewhat as if he planned it; it's kind of hard to tell. ) Then, Colin decides to do a verse about dentists, which was an original suggestion for the game before someone in the audience suggested professor. Lastly, the game ends on an unexpected note: though Ryan is in the game, he does NOT sing a verse! This Hoedown game featured only 3 verses! It's also the only hoedown Chip sat out of, probably because of the occurances earlier.
In this case, the points did matter. Chip was declared the winner for this episode, probably because of the 1 times 10 to the 30th power points he was awarded for Title Sequence.
At the start of Greatest Hits, Colin and Ryan say that burning has nothing to do with CD's, music, and firefighters. Of course, anyone with a modern computer equates burning with music and CD's in the form of CD-R's.
This episode will probably contain the highest real number point value ever awarded to a contestant. For his "professor" blunder in Title Sequence, Chip is awarded "1,000 to the 10th power points" by Drew. This translates into 1 times 10 to the 30th power, a number known as a nonillion in American short scale. (If this were the British version, using their long scale, this value is quintillion.)
Colin: (after Wayne in Weird Newscasters) If you think that's bad, you should see Bubbles.
(SFAH, things they never write songs about)
Ryan: You...and your constipation...
Wayne: (as Ray Charles) Mah best frieeeeeeeeeeend is mah colon, yeah!
Colin: I've got on my rubber glove
It's time now to think of love
'Cause your prostate...
(Scenes from a Hat, winning entires in the hillbilly poetry competition)
Ryan: People say our love is a bunch of phooey
But when I want you, I yell, soooey!
Wayne: When you're gone, it's you I miss
No one I love more than my mama's sis.
Ryan: You are the one, you are my lady
I like you more than a naked Ned Beatty.
Colin: By the lake of Gitche Gumee
Shot a squirrell and et it.
Drew: You know, I think they should really have a hillbilly poetry contest after hearing that stuff.
Drew: Some of the folks in the studio might have noticed the lights dimming during the commercial. No need to panic, there was just another execution in Texas.
(After Chip's screw-up.)
Chip: He was a very smart wrestler.
Drew: (laughing) Yeah.
Chip: His wrestling name was "The Professor" is the funny thing.
Drew: (still laughing) Oh, man.
Wayne: Let's air that one!
Drew: Yeah. (to Chip) Well, 1,000 points to the 10th power to you.
(Title Sequence: "Mel Gibson and the Wrestler")
Chip: Yeah, you don't know the shape they're in
When one is an Australian
The other is a Professor
They're Mel Gibson and the Professor!
Wayne: Dee-dee-dee! Mel!
Chip: Mel Gibson and the....
Wayne: Mel Gibson and the Wrestler!
Chip: Professor! Wrestler!(spoken) Oh! Oh-ho!
(Scenes from a Hat)
Drew: The right way and the wrong way.
Ryan (singing): ...and the wrestler! ...and the professor!
Ryan's verse from the Dentist/Professor Hoedown (As shown in the UK):
I went to my denstist, but he wasn't there,
his nurse told me that I would be in her care,
she lay back in the chair and boy did she moan,
becasue I was doing a little drilling of my own.
This episode is from the same tapings as Show No. 312, Show No. 317, and Show No. 328. There aren't too many connections between them, though Drew's intros are the same here and 317, and and the points joke here was used in 328. Also, Anna, the sign language interpreter from Duet in 317 can be seen just behind Drew's left shoulder.
