This Australian police drama was filmed in Sydney, and reinvented the word 'gritty'. Trademarks of the show included improvised dialogue and shaky camera work, intended to give it an edgy, realistic feel.
Bill McCoy (Tony Martin) is an ex-cop who returns to Australia to find his missing son. He enlists the aid of a doctor working at a city crisis centre, Maxine Summers (Rachel Blake). Bill is eventually accepted back in the force, and the action largely focuses between the police station and the crisis centre, with their often conflicting goals and methods. The eternal question of whether Max and Bill would finally get it on also helped to keep viewers watching!
With many awards, almost every Australian actor of note featured as a guest star through the course of the series.
