  • Trivia

    • As Karen waits for her massage, a candle alternates from lit to unlit several times.

    • In this episode we learn that Grace's office is located in the Puck Building at 295 Lafayette St., south of Houston St.

  • Quotes

    • Grace: What is it with you? Why is it every time money and property are involved you turn into a...
      Will: Skillful, savvy negotiator?
Grace: Mine only had four letters in it, but yeah.

    • Jack: Big news...hit it! (with a cheerleader dance) B-I-G-N-E-W-S! Big news!
Karen: Well, I guess we know it's not you coming out of the closet.

    • (Grace is sobbing face-down on her workbench, having poured out her distress about her life and the prospect of having a mortgage.)
Mr. Hutt: Miss Adler, it's not much, but perhaps I could lower the price a bit more. Think about it. All right?
(He leaves, Grace is still sobbing. We hear the door close, then... in a flash, Grace switches it off; she sits up straight, the tears are gone, she grabs a pen and signs.)
Grace(to Will): Now look at me and tell me I'm not a good businesswoman.

    • Jack: I finally found my life's calling and it involves these two hands.
Will: Ah, so you're going to be self-employed.

    • Jack: I can't take it anymore, Karen. Every day I come in and I touch your naked body. We don't talk, there's no emotion. I'm behaving like a straight guy and it's making me sick. I took an oath in front of God and my mother. I'm here, I'm queer, get used to it!

    • Will: Just gonna do a little business. Let me do the talking. You're just the strong, silent type, with an angry look. (Looks at the expression on Grace's face.) Angry, not constipated.

    • Jack: I love people. As long as they're not hairy... or smelly... or have the dreaded 'backne'. Ew! Ok, I need some guinea pigs. Who's interested?
      Will: Smelly.
      Grace: Hairy. (They both leave.)
Jack: Thank you, friends. (Jack looks at Karen.)
      Karen: Backne.

    • Grace: You know what? I'm sorry. I can't just turn it on and off like you. If you prick me, I bleed, and right now, I am bleeding because of a particularly unforgivable prick!

    • Grace: And I was at Bloomingdale's this morning waiting in line to buy wrinkle cream, and this Jennifer-Love-Michelle-Sarah-Felicity looking THING bumps into me and says, "Excuse me... ma'am."

    • Jack: Now, I want you to take off your robe and I don't want you to feel uncomfortable. The sheet will drape you so--
Karen: (ripping off her robe) Yeah, I've done this before, honey. Skin to the wind!
Jack: Wow, Karen, you could bounce a quarter off that thing!

    • Will: Don't hate me.
      Grace: Don't talk to me.
Will: I have to talk to you.
Grace: I have to hate you.

  • Notes

  • Allusions

    • Will: Bangers and mash. Mutton chops, Snozberries, Piccadilly.

Will references many British colloquialisms, but the Snozberries are a reference to the book and later movie version of Willie Wonka And The Chocolate Factory.

    • Episode Title: The Buying Game

This is a reference to the 1992 film The Crying Game starring Stephen Rhea and Miranda Richardson.

    • Will: Love the outfit. Very Audrey Hepburn.
Audrey Hepburn was one of the most famous actresses in all of Hollywood, and a major leading lady from 1958-1967.
