I really enjoyed this episode for a number of reasons.

Having missed the whole of the last season, and the introduction of D.I. Alex Fielding, it was nice to see how well Simone Lahbib has blended in with the cast.

The story was a good one - something that has, of course, been done before on t.v., yet it was done with much subtelty and good writing, meaning that other than initial doubts about the mother, I did not suspect her character until the truth was revealed. The writing allowed a number of potential suspects, none of whom were cleared until close to the end. The program also managed to avoid blood and gore, which if often typical of watershed detective programs but not always necessary.

The acting was of course superb - a great performance from Andoh.

Equally the program raised a number of interesting criminology questions I had not considered before. Such as the race issues involved in kidnapping and the statistics (though I thought they went a little overhand with those).

As always I enjoyed many of Tony's observations, though it seemed there was a strange mixture of a little too predictable and obvious signs and too subtle ones that even Tony shouldn't have been able to analyse so well because they were too subjective.

All in all, a really good episode.moreless
