Recurring Role |
Kelbo and Shakira and supposed to be wearing the same clothes and accessories, as they are the same person. Yet the green shirt (with leather jacket) that Shakira's wearing has a beaded waistline, while Kelbo's shirt doesn't. Also, Shakira's wearing earrings, but Kelbo isn't.
It's revealed that spells can become contaminated due to a "wizard germ"; when a wizard uses a "contaminated" spell, they find themselves unable to control the effects, which is why Kelbo and Max randomly alternate between Shakira and a trash can, respectively, and their original forms after using the transformation spell featured.
Uncle Kelbo hates the taste of cinnamon.
While prank calling Justin, Alex uses a British accent and goes by the name "Vice-Chairman Higglebottom". In the episode "Hugh's Not Normus", Alex stated that she uses this persona for all the times she prank calls Justin, to where Justin replied "So you're Miss Higglebottom?".
Spells Featured:
"When you're tired of the same old story, turn some pages, (item)" - turns the user into the item, in this case a trash can.
We learn that the Wizard Council's ultimate punishment for those who break the #1 wizard rule of not exposing the existence of magic to mortals, is removing their ability to hold a wand by having a dragon break both their hands.
Uncle Kelbo states that he actually made-up Shakira, so it appears that it the show's case, Shakira is actually Kelbo in disguise.
Justin: I've been to lots of boy/girl parties!
Alex: Okay, having Zeke over and having me and Harper walk through is not a boy/girl party.
Alex: Just go on your trip. I mean what's the worst thing that could happen if we're not chaperoned for four minutes?
Theresa: Oh I don't know, a magic black hole could open up and suck the Sub Station down into it!
Alex: That doesn't happen twice mother.
Max: (after almost exposing that Shakira is actually Uncle Kelbo) Oh look, another random comment from Max! Now I know what you guys are always talking about.
Alex: (looking through a spellbook) Okay, let's see... "Uncontrollable transformations, see page six eighty-five." (flips pages) "See page five thirty-two." (flips pages) "Alright, stop flipping and call a doctor." What?!
Kelbo: I still feel kinda weird. My eyes are all watery and itchy and I still feel like gyrating in form-fitting lycra.
(Max says a spell that turns himself into a rusty trash can)
Max: What are you guys staring at?
Alex: Max, you're a trash can.
Max: And you're a terrible older sister!
Justin: Since when did you ever start caring about family?
Alex: Hey, family is important! They're the people who have to be nice to you, no matter what.
Alex: (after Jerry and Theresa leave) Well look at that. Five seconds later and we're all still alive.
Kelbo: There's a strict law about using magic for fame and fortune. Okay? It's one of the main eleven wizard rules.
Max: Hold on. There are eleven wizard rules? My dad said there was just one: (imitating Jerry) "What your mother doesn't know won't hurt her."
Alex: Shakira?
Shakira: Yeah. (giggles) Listen, I'm on tour with the Harlem Globetrotters and our tour bus broke down. And the only way to fix it is by singing a duet with a fan.
This episode premiered in Disney Channel Latin America and Disney Channel Brazil before premiering in the United States.
Shakira sings a duet of her song "Gypsy" with Selena Gomez in this episode.
The prank phone call Uncle Kelbo did in this episode is different from the other times he did the same recurring gag in the episodes "Alex in the Middle" and "Retest". Also, unlike the other times, the prank call actually succeeds and Kelbo doesn't run away.
Jennifer Stone (Harper) does not appear in this episode. This is her first absence during the third season.
REO Speedwagon
The transformation spell: "When you're tired of the same old story, turn some pages" is the same as a lyrics from their 1978 hit "Roll With the Changes".
Episode Title: Dude Looks Like Shakira
This is a reference to the song by Aerosmith, "Dude Looks Like a Lady", which has been covered by the singer Shakira.
