  • Shakira guest stars in the "Wizards of Waverly Place" episode "Dude Looks Like Shakira"

I thought this was an excellent episode of "Wizards of Waverly Place". It's not my favorite episode but it was very enjoyable and I'm glad that Shakira guest starred in this episode because I think she is very pretty and she has some good music. Who can also forget about the hilarious Jeff Garlin guest starring as Uncle Kelbo?. This episode was funny but it was also weird. Uncle Kelbo being Shakira the whole time... what's not weird about that? it's pretty weird. Anyways, Uncle Kelbo being Shakira was a very funny idea and I liked it for the most part. Max (as usual) was very funny in this episode with his random talk and all that. Justin making a potion to make Uncle Kelbo stop being sick was disgusting because the gross stuff that Justin puts in there to make Uncle Kelbo feel better was just plain gross. Just having his party because Shakira was gonna be there was also funny. Shakira turning back into Uncle Kelbo with everyone in the party wondering how he turned into Shakira was funny. The very ending was hilarious as well when Alex and Uncle Kelbo were prank calling Justin. My score was just a little low because I thought a couple of scenes could have been better and I didn't like that Justin was going to almost turn in Uncle Kelbo... come on, they're family and you shouldn't turn your family in. Overall, a superb episode of "Wizards of Waverly Place". 9/10moreless
  • This episode was wierd...but SO funny!

This was such a strange episode but that never keeps me from laughing! Uncle Kelbo returns and Shakira makes a guest appearence, but as it turns out Uncle Kelbo IS Shakira! And no, I mean Shakira actually is Uncle Kelbo in disguise. It was so funny seeing Uncle Kelbo transform into Shakira and back repeatedly when he couldn't control the magical tranformation. And it's so funny when Alex tries to create a cover story and it leads to Justin getting mad when he finds out what is going on. It all goes out of control! And Max turning into a trash can was good too; Max mixed with magic is just hillarious and random. Although the duet with Alex and Shakira was a little too much, I thought Selena Gomez and Sakira's voices sounded prretty good together. And I liked seeing the entire cast in those Shakira-esque outfits; Selena looked hot, and Jerry and Kelbo dancing dressed like that was worth the laugh. And you can't forget the concluding "prank call" gag; never fails. This episode was a good edition to my friday night.moreless
  • This is good but this episode is so unusual.

This episode is the most strange I've ever watch. I don't know why Uncle Kelbo try to became Shakira and trying to date Justin and another original boy in high school. Shakira is kinda acting like Professor Umbridge in "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" movie. HA HA HA, it's so unusual! Why Uncle Kelba try to became teenager girl? I guess Uncle Kelbo is trying to act very weird. But this episode is good. Shakira's face looks extremely weird than funny Uncle Kelbo. I laugh sometimes when I'm watching "Dude Looks Like Shakira". "Dude Looks Like Shakira" sounds funny and it feels funny.moreless
  • I Don't Even Know Shakira...

All I know about her is she is some famous singer, so in that aspect of getting a celeb we all know, IMO they failed. I don't even think I've heard of her. I liked the episode overall, such as Justin trying to be cool and have his senior moment, and stuff like that. I do think that the episode is somewhat forgettable though, it is OK but I did not think it was overtly funny or interesting, which is why I gave it a 6.0, also known as a C+ or so, at least according to how I grademoreless

The episode is a fun play of words on the Aerosmith song "Dude Looks like a Lady." And honestly this was a fun episode. You would not find anyone who would argue that it was the most clever, but it was an amusing episode that featured the great singer Shakira and the always funny Jeff Garlin, reprising his role as Uncle Kelbo. Kelbo adds so much to this show, just like he does on Curb Your Enthusiasm every week.

There were some funny moments, rarely will you see a Wizards episode without something you laugh at, but the premise was kind of stupid (and I say that having seen some of the other episodes of this show.)moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (7)

    • Kelbo and Shakira and supposed to be wearing the same clothes and accessories, as they are the same person. Yet the green shirt (with leather jacket) that Shakira's wearing has a beaded waistline, while Kelbo's shirt doesn't. Also, Shakira's wearing earrings, but Kelbo isn't.

    • It's revealed that spells can become contaminated due to a "wizard germ"; when a wizard uses a "contaminated" spell, they find themselves unable to control the effects, which is why Kelbo and Max randomly alternate between Shakira and a trash can, respectively, and their original forms after using the transformation spell featured.

    • Uncle Kelbo hates the taste of cinnamon.

    • While prank calling Justin, Alex uses a British accent and goes by the name "Vice-Chairman Higglebottom". In the episode "Hugh's Not Normus", Alex stated that she uses this persona for all the times she prank calls Justin, to where Justin replied "So you're Miss Higglebottom?".

    • Spells Featured:
"When you're tired of the same old story, turn some pages, (item)" - turns the user into the item, in this case a trash can.

    • We learn that the Wizard Council's ultimate punishment for those who break the #1 wizard rule of not exposing the existence of magic to mortals, is removing their ability to hold a wand by having a dragon break both their hands.

    • Uncle Kelbo states that he actually made-up Shakira, so it appears that it the show's case, Shakira is actually Kelbo in disguise.

  • QUOTES (10)

    • Justin: I've been to lots of boy/girl parties!
Alex: Okay, having Zeke over and having me and Harper walk through is not a boy/girl party.

    • Alex: Just go on your trip. I mean what's the worst thing that could happen if we're not chaperoned for four minutes?
Theresa: Oh I don't know, a magic black hole could open up and suck the Sub Station down into it!
Alex: That doesn't happen twice mother.

    • Max: (after almost exposing that Shakira is actually Uncle Kelbo) Oh look, another random comment from Max! Now I know what you guys are always talking about.

    • Alex: (looking through a spellbook) Okay, let's see... "Uncontrollable transformations, see page six eighty-five." (flips pages) "See page five thirty-two." (flips pages) "Alright, stop flipping and call a doctor." What?!

    • Kelbo: I still feel kinda weird. My eyes are all watery and itchy and I still feel like gyrating in form-fitting lycra.

    • (Max says a spell that turns himself into a rusty trash can)
Max: What are you guys staring at?
Alex: Max, you're a trash can.
Max: And you're a terrible older sister!

    • Justin: Since when did you ever start caring about family?
Alex: Hey, family is important! They're the people who have to be nice to you, no matter what.

    • Alex: (after Jerry and Theresa leave) Well look at that. Five seconds later and we're all still alive.

    • Kelbo: There's a strict law about using magic for fame and fortune. Okay? It's one of the main eleven wizard rules.
Max: Hold on. There are eleven wizard rules? My dad said there was just one: (imitating Jerry) "What your mother doesn't know won't hurt her."

    • Alex: Shakira?
Shakira: Yeah. (giggles) Listen, I'm on tour with the Harlem Globetrotters and our tour bus broke down. And the only way to fix it is by singing a duet with a fan.

  • NOTES (4)

    • This episode premiered in Disney Channel Latin America and Disney Channel Brazil before premiering in the United States.

    • Shakira sings a duet of her song "Gypsy" with Selena Gomez in this episode.

    • The prank phone call Uncle Kelbo did in this episode is different from the other times he did the same recurring gag in the episodes "Alex in the Middle" and "Retest". Also, unlike the other times, the prank call actually succeeds and Kelbo doesn't run away.

    • Jennifer Stone (Harper) does not appear in this episode. This is her first absence during the third season.

    • REO Speedwagon

The transformation spell: "When you're tired of the same old story, turn some pages" is the same as a lyrics from their 1978 hit "Roll With the Changes".

    • Episode Title: Dude Looks Like Shakira

This is a reference to the song by Aerosmith, "Dude Looks Like a Lady", which has been covered by the singer Shakira.
