  • Wilmer Valderrama guest stars in this episode as Uncle Ernesto

    9.5
We all know Wilmer Valderrama as the hilarious Fez in "That 70s Show" and he is also the voice of Manny in the hit Disney Junior show "Handy Manny" but now Wilmer Valderrama guest stars in this episode as Uncle Ernesto. It's awesome how Uncle Ernesto was only mentioned once in this whole entire show and that was in the Season 1episode "Justin's Little Sister" and he guest stars in this Season 3 episode "Uncle Ernesto". Well, I've been a fan of Wilmer Valderrama's work so I thought he was perfect for the role of "Uncle Ernesto". This episode isn't my favorite which is why my score is a tad low but it was very enjoyable. It's Teresa's birthday but she wants to have a magic-free day where no one uses their magic. Alex tries to convince Teresa to invite her brother Ernesto which she hasn't seen years so she decides to invite Ernesto. This episode was kinda charming but not as charming what the promo made it look though. The charms in this episode was still good though. There were some parts that made me laugh but the funniest part was definitely when Max was doing the chicken dance. The veryending with Ernesto walking into the Wizard Lair thinking that it was a Fort was funny as well. Overall, not my favorite episode but it was enjoyable and it was good to see Wilmer Valderrama. 9.5/10moreless

Wilmer Valderrama made his triumphant return to sitcoms tonight, but let's say that he will not exactly be the next Uncle Kelbo. He had maybe one or two good lines, but it certainly was not reminiscent of his appearances on That 70's Show. That being said, this was still a good episode of Wizards and I am glad that the show is producing weekly episodes. Nick may have better shows than Disney, but at least Disney does not make you wait 2 months between episodes.

It was kind of funny, and kind of charming, and one of the better episodes of Wizards this season.moreless
  • The best written episode since Wizards vs. Werewolves.

We see Uncle Ernesto for the first time in this episode, which was a delight to watch. The Russo's invite Theresa's brother for her birthday, while Alex, Justin and Max promise not to use magic when he arrives. The promise flies out the window as soon as a magical gift from Uncle Kelbo comes. The gift is a chicken that tells the future. Alex asks it who will win the family wizard competition, but the chicken escapes. The chicken and other gifts from Kelbo almost expose the Russo's to Ernesto, frustrating Theresa. In the end Alex decides not to find out who wins the wizard competition as a sacrifice to her Mom; to show her that family means more then magic. This is a very special episode that will be remembered as one of the best of season 3. (Although I believe that 95% of Season 3 is amazing.) Seeing Uncle Ernesto for the first time was so cool, and I really like his character. (I hope he comes back.) There were a TON of references in this episode, mostly from season 1. References are always fun, and they tie the whole series together. We got to see some insight into Theresa's character, which we don't see enough of. The acting is great (it always is) and the writing is just superb. I had a lot of fun watching this episode. It was funny, heartfelt and just an all around perfect episode. A+moreless

  • TRIVIA (4)

    • Both the times that someone from Teresa's side of the family comes to visit (In this episode and the episode Quincinera where Magdalena visits), very similar events take place:

      1. They come for a birthday (Magdalena for Alex's and Ernesto for Teresa's)
      2. They do not know of the magical side of the family
      3. They enter the lair but think it is something else (Magdalena thinks it is a wrestling room and Ernesto thinks it is Max's fort).

    • Max's "distract a chicken dance" is similar to the chicken dance featured in "Alex's Brother-Maximan" when Harper worked at the roller skating rink as a chicken.

    • Uncle Ernesto was first mentioned in the season 1 episode "Justin Little Sister", where it was stated that Justin looks like to Uncle Ernesto.

    • We learn a tradition in Harper's family is making their own birthday cakes, and later smashing the cake to get out their frustration.

  • QUOTES (6)

    • Justin: Uncle Kelbo's not coming to dinner? That's my gift to Mom. I call it!

    • Jerry: (to Max): Okay, "Boy Who Should Stop Talking", you go out on the terrace with "What Should We Do Now" and "I'm Usually The Victim".

    • Max: (about the magic chicken) Perfect. It'll complete my collection.
      Alex: Of what?
Max: Things I have no idea what they are.

    • (Theresa blows out her candles)
Alex: Did you make a wish?
Theresa: I don't have to. It's already come true.

    • (about Theresa's cousins coming over for dinner)
Jerry: Ten years, Theresa. I think they're old enough to understand now.
Alex: Yeah, Mom. Come on. What is it? Are you embarrassed by us?
(Max walks in wearing goggles and snorkel and holding a spear)
Max: If anyone needs me, I'll be upstairs spearing things.
Theresa: No Honey, I numbed out embarrassed long, long ago.

    • Theresa: Ernesto! You look great!
Uncle Ernesto: I know! And you still look like your 27 years-old.
      Theresa: I know!
