I've only seen a handful of TV shows live, but I was in the audience at the taping of this one. Got to meet Hugh Wilson and Gary Sandy before the taping. Hoyt Axton played for the audience between the shot setups, and there was really only one retake that we saw filmed - part of the elevator scene when the doors didn't move on cue. That scene was played center stage, obscuring part of the "bullpen" set. It was taped at the old KTLA lot in March of 1979. We sat on bleachers that were only about ten or twelve rows deep in front of the set. You'll notice by the episode guide for Season One that it was a rather long season by todays standards. I was lucky enough to score some tickets to the taping by requesting them just a month or so in advance. The show had a good audience by that time, because they had already done "Turkeys Away", so it was pretty exciting to be able to get them. The live audience taping was mainly for timing and reaction - I'm sure they did some retakes after we left. But it was fun to see anyway. Two items of note: Loni wore a lot of makeup to define her cleavage that was kind of a shock. And it was interesting to learn that the elevator operator, Buzz Sapien was also Stage Manager for the show.moreless
