Xavier has urgent news, gleaned from Master Mold's old data core. The flashpoint of the war can be narrowed down to one incident – the theft of Magneto's helmet by Gambit, a mutant thief working for Senator Kelly. As Wolverine and Nightcrawler rush to try and prevent this, Gambit has landed on Genosha and gained Magneto's trust. In the process, he has attracted an ardent admirer in Magneto's youngest daughter Lorna. But Lorna has fallen for a dangerous man, for while Gambit plays his part perfectly, the Cajun thief always hides his true intentions.moreless

Guess who's back!

This is a neat little episode with a lot of elements to it. As the war between mutants and humans draws nearer, a spy is hired to infiltrate Genosha: Gambit. Yes, Remy LeBeau returns with the task of stealing Magneto's helmet. It's kind of a silly idea (thinking gesture will show human kind that Magneto is not untouchable, and there is no need to fear) but that's not really the point here, at all. What we really get to do is see Gambit work his charm on the sisters, Wanda and Lorna, particularly Lorna, the younger of the two, and (possibly) hypnotized by Gambit's eyes. Of course, with this character, there's always something else going on and in fact , Gambit was sent to sabotage Genosha, which he does with Polaris' unknowing help. Some might not have cared for the almost teen soap opera plotline, but it didn't bother me. I quite enjoyed an episode that was more focused on the relationships between characters and not just action. Scarlet Witch got interplay with all the major characters in this episode, and is standing out as a strong female character for the show. Nightcrawler gets to do some sneaking, Wolverine basically plays chauffeur, and Rogue and Kitty show up briefly in one scene. At the end of the day, the two antagonists (magneto and Kelly) are shown what their future is in store and both have decided to settle down. It will be interesting to see what happens next.
