  • My favorite character debuts! But there's a lot of potential here untapped...

Gambit, my favorite X-Man, makes his first appearance on this new series and to be sure, he had a lot of cool scenes. (My favorite being when he "charged" up that car) But overall, I don't think the episode was all that it could be.

It was an interesting decision to basically makes this a solo Wolverine/Gambit team up. I didn't mind too much, but I did miss some of the rest of the team, particularly Storm, who they went to alot of trouble to recruit last week and now is nowhere to be seen. Secondly, there was a missed opportunity regarding the collar that surpresses mutant abilities. With so much at stake in our heroes' world, both with the government and the future, don'tyou think this higly important device could have been given more attention than simply just used as a "capture the flag" type prop?

Finally, I think Gambit's model was awfully ugly. Normally, top notch animation has been the series trademark.

    Great magma cameo, though.moreless
  • Sub-par animation hampers a so-so story

Gambit's always a lot of fun, especially when he's up to no good and annoying the snot out of Wolverine. And that's pretty much the only redeeming feature of this episode. The inhibitor collar, Bolivar Trask, Wolvie versus robots and lasers - all of these could/should/would have been awesome, but weren't. I blame the animation for lowering the overall quality of the story; the action scenes just weren't exciting, most were hard to follow, and everyone kept veering off-model. Great voice work by Phil LaMarr, though - he's now my second-favorite Gambit, right behind Chris Potter in the original TAS.moreless
