Season 1 Episode 4

Pink Flamingos

Aired Thursday 9:00 PM Apr 01, 2004 on FOX

  • Trivia

    • In this episode we find out that Sharon has never had a sexual relationship with a man.

    • Jaye's highschool yearbook lists her clubs, sports, and honors as none, none, and none.

    • Jaye says "I know that guy and that guy. And her, and her, and her, and him." - Obviously the three hers must include Mahandra, Karen and Gretchen. She forgot Lucy Simpson, who she mentioned in the trailer with Mahandra earlier this episode, and Margaret Wayne, who she was also discussing about her at The Barrel with Mahandra in the pilot.

    • At The Barrel, the last time Jaye says "No, I don't", her lips don't move.

    • When the car crashes into Darin, we hear metal-hollow trash can noises, even though he was hauling plastic recyling bins and there were no metal trash cans in sight.

  • Quotes

    • Mahandra: Have you been huffing puff paint, because this just isn't like you?
Jaye: What do you mean, like me? There is no like me. I'm not like anything, and if I were it certainly wouldn't be me.

    • Darrin: I know when you're careless it's not because you don't care.

    • Gretchen: (About her husband) He's great if I was gonna make a list of what I wanted in a husband. Which I did, actually. Well, Robert is that list.
Chuck: So, he's the man of your dreams?
Gretchen: He's the man of my list.

    • Gretchen: I've done everything to please him. I've changed religions for God's sake! I'm not going to heaven now! What more does he want?

    • Jaye: How many fractures before it's multiple?
      Darrin: Two.
Jaye: How many do you have?
      Darrin: Seven.
      Sharon: (To Jaye)
And people say you're an underachiever!

    • Mahandra: (to Jaye) You may be the universe's butt-puppet, but I'm its right-hand fist of fate and tonight accounts are coming due.

    • Karen: This isn't a criticism. I'm just curious. How do you run someone down from the passenger seat?

    • Pink Flamingo: Get off your ass.

    • Jaye: Can we just pretend this didn't happen?
Karen: That's what the morphine's for.

    • Karen: Your sister's not a cold-blooded murderer - she's never been a planner.

    • Darrin: Don't denigrate what you do.
Jaye: I sell plastic canoes and refrigerator magnets.
      Darrin: (shrugs) It's only temporary.

    • Beth: Is this going to be an issue?
Sharon: This isn't an issue, it's a full subscription.

    • Sharon: "Tense?" I'm not tense. I'm so far from tense, I'm past tense!

    • Jaye: I'm a puppet. The universe just sticks its hand up my butt, and if I don't dance, people get hurt.

    • Eric: So, did you defy the chicken?
      Jaye: Uh-huh.
Eric: And how'd that work out for ya?
Jaye: I think I may have killed a man.

    • Mahandra: Gretchen Speck is the Anti-Christ. And you're helping her throw a reunion! You're throwing a reunion with the Anti-Christ!

    • Karen: Honey, you should go in there.
      Jaye: Me?
      Karen: Otherwise, I'll have to.

    • Mahandra: What a bitch... is it wrong that I like her now?

    • Jaye: She wanted to talk to you, and I said you were servicing me sexually.

    • Jaye: I'm done fighting. From now on, I'm fate's bitch.

    • Jaye: Yeah, screw the chicken! I'm going to save that bitch's marriage!

    • Gretchen: What must people think of me?
Jaye: Nobody thinks of you. (long pause) Badly.

    • Darrin: Say, did you know basic cable has lesbian porn?

    • Jaye: Why are those pilgrims carrying you on that folding chair?
Karen: Jaye, stop teasing. You saw Fiddler.

    • Jaye: I think it's fair to say that you had more fun when I ran you over. But I'm glad I went.
Darrin: Well, I'm glad you ran me over.
      Jaye: Ha, ha.
Darrin: No, I'm serious. You're my good luck charm. You know those pointless routine tests that they held me for? They found a blood clot in my leg. Deep in the vein, it could've killed me. Thanks to you, they found it in time.

  • Notes

  • Allusions

    • The scene in which Sharon surreptitiously carries up a bright glass of milk to drug her father is a subtle, hilarious reference to the 1941 Alfred Hitchcock film Suspicion. In the movie, Johnny (Cary Grant) carries a glowing glass of milk up a staircase, and his wife, Lina (Joan Fontaine), believes he is trying to poison her.

    • Jaye: Why are those pilgrims carrying you on that folding chair?
Karen: Jaye, stop teasing. You saw Fiddler.

This is a reference to the Oscar-winning 1971 movie Fiddler on the Roof, in which a Russian Jewish peasant marries his daughters off. Jaye is acting as if she doesn't recognize a common practice of traditional Jewish weddings.
