    NBC Cancels Working the Engels

NBC has yanked the comedy from its schedule and replaced it with new episodes of Welcome to Sweden.

Hey, Should I Watch NBC's New Pair of Comedies, Welcome to Sweden and Working the Engels?

NBC is launching two Thursday sitcoms, but are they worth watching or just summer filler?

    • Quirky & Cute gets sacrificed

Engels was a quirky, guilty pleasure comedy but I found that refreshing and like many others I had a tv-crush on Kacey Rohl ("Jenna"). Hope the cast lands successfully elsewhere.
    • Never took off

I extended the four episode try to six based on the ratings of over 8 given to all episodes when aired in Canada. Apparently our sense of humor is different from Canadians and I'm one that likes many of the Canadian shows like Flashpoint, that I miss, and The Listener.
    • One is too high

I was reluctant to post because I hate to admit having watched 2 episodes of this drivel. It makes Bad Teacher look like Seinfeld by comparison. The only way it could be worse would be to move it to Sweden. Too bad 1 is the lowest I can give this zero...

[Edit] In ep 2 the mother's performance in the coffin is painfully embarrassing to watch - I can't believe it's actually been compared to the hilarious fake-funeral episode of Arrested Development.moreless
    • Pretty bad

This show uses the basic formula in which you have a bunch of wacky characters plus one reasonable human being to hold it all together. Generally the role of reasonable person is the weakest one, because all the fun is in the wackiness, and it's an indication of how poorly done this show is that in this case the reasonable one is the only one who seems even mildly interesting, the others being so cartoonish, flat, and stereotypical that all you can do is roll your eyes. The opening with Andrea Martin's painfully broad, community-theater quality performance is probably the worst part of the show, but the best thing I can say for it is I never quite got around to turning the pilot off.moreless
