World's Greatest Mysteries Mars: Barren Rock Or Inhabited Civilization?
AIRED:
Controversy. Conspiracy. Confusion. History is fraught with events -- from local to global -- that have never been satisfactorily explained. What caused the dinosaurs to perish? How were the Egyptian Pyramids built? What happened to the great Inca civilization? Was John Wilkes Booth part of a large, sinister plot? Was George Armstrong Custer sacrificed to save the Grant Administration? Is there anything happening in Roswell, New Mexico, that should be shared with American citizens? Who shot John F. Kennedy? These and dozens of other international mysteries are investigated, explored, unraveled and reported. Mars: Barren Rock Or Inhabited Civilization? Mars has long been the subject of human fascination. Early telescopic observations revealed color changes on the surface which were originally attributed to seasonal vegetation as well as linear features which were ascribed to intelligent design. These early interpretations led to widespread public interest in our nearest planetary neighbor, but Mars has persistently defied our best efforts to unlock its mystery. The exploration of Mars has been an important part of the space exploration programs of the Soviets (and Russians), the United States, Europe, and Japan. Since the 1960's, roughly two-thirds of all spacecraft destined for Mars failed before completing their missions, with some malfunctioning before they even begin. This high failure rate has led researchers to jokingly speak of The Great Galactic Ghoul which subsists on a diet of Mars probes. Informally, this phenomenon is known as the Mars Curse Dozens. This television program attempts to identify whether someone--or something--is preventing exploration of the intriguing red planet. It also examines photographic evidence of what appear to be man-made structures on Mars. The program looks at whether Mars offers links to another civilization . . . perhaps one that predates our own. What does our government really know about Mars? Find out more about our mystemoreless
