  • Armageddon 2008

    United States Championship

    MVP vs. Rey Mysterio

This was a solid opening match. It was sort of slowed down because of MVP's ground based offense, but Rey kept it flowing very well. The ending was disappointing, but it didn't take too much away from a solid match.

    Match Rating: 7/10

Kane & CM Punk vs. Mark Henry & Big Daddy V

I really couldn't get into this one. Punk tried hard to work with the big guys, but couldn't bring anything out of them

    Match Rating: 3/10

    Shawn Michaels vs. Mr. Kennedy

This was a suprise match of the night. It was a simple one on one match for no title, but it turned out to be a great psychology match, with each men working on a body part of the other. Sort of like Raven vs. Chris Harris back in the 4 sided ring days of TNA. Just an awesome match, and well put together.

    Match Rating: 8.5/10

    Jeff Hardy vs. Triple H

The winner of this match gets a WWE Title Shot at the Royal Rumble. Another great match between these two, and this time Jeff gets the suprise win. Great booking decision, as Hardy was really reaching main event status. Match Rating: 7.5/10

    Finlay vs. The Great Khali

This wasn't as bad as I expected. It was nothing special, but Finlay pulls an almost decent match out of the big guy, and actually picks up the win.

    Match Rating: 4.5/10

    WWE Championship

    Randy Orton vs. Chirs Jericho

I thought this was a pretty good match. It wasn't fast paced, and it didn't have a ton of spots, it was just a solid wrestling match from start to finish. It really started to pick up towards the end, until it was abruptly ended with JBL kicking Jericho in the head causing the DQ.

    Match Rating: 7/10

    Women's Championship

    Beth Phoenix vs. Mickie James

These two are very good workers, and they pull a solid matchup. It was a little short, but still entertaining, with Phoenix retaining

    Match Rating: 6/10

    World Heavyweight Championship

Batista vs. The Undertaker vs. Edge

This was a pretty good main event. In seperate matches, these three have all had classics, but it wasn't as good having them all together. They seemed to only have two in the ring at the same time, but in the end it ended up working out, even thought the Edgehead interference was a little sloppy. Edge wins the belt here in a decent match

    Match Rating: 7/10

Armageddon was overall a good pay per view. It had some bad matches, the a few awesome matches makes it worth the watchmoreless

  • A solid PPV, but not what it could have been...

On paper, aside from the Punk/Kane vs Daddy/Henry match (and arguably Khali v Finlay), this was a very strong card. It didn't quite deliver but offered a few surprises at least.

MVP's count-out loss was frustrating to say the least - I was very disappointed and would have preferred even an MVP cheating victory.

Big Daddy V pinning Punk in the tag match was great - also a way to cement him as ECW's monster heel.

Jeff Hardy beating Triple H marked the night's highlight - very unexpected, although Jeff will probably get screwed out of wrestling at the Rumble, and even if he doesn't, he certainly won't win that match.

Finlay beating Khali was fun - predictable but an interesting bout.

Jericho so nearly beating Orton and then getting punted by JBL was a shame, and again it was expected that Jericho would somehow get the shaft. Also, this seems to be a de-push of sorts for Jericho if he is to feud with JBL, although given the rumours of his contractual stipulation of a title reign, hopefully not for too long.

Edge winning, and his attempts to confuse his opponents, were great. I'm assuming that every Triple Threat match is now No DQ or something, because I had no idea otherwise.

Edge and Jeff winning were the highlights, Jericho losing was a downer, but overall this could have been far worse, even if the first two matches didn't set a particularly good precedent.moreless
