Welcome to the Wycliffe guide at TV.com.''''Wycliffe was another police procedural drama, this one based on the series of novels written by W. J. Burley about Detective Superintendent Charles Wycliffe.''''The series was set in Cornwall, and many of the crimes Wycliffe was called upon to solve related to drug smuggling operations. He was assisted by DIs Doug Kersey and Lucy Lane.''''The successful show was produced, first, by Red Rooster Films, then Harvest Entertainment, and finally by United Film and Television Productions, all for HTV. Jimmy Yuill, who played D.I. Doug Kersey, was written out of the series at the behest of the production company after becoming gravely ill with meningitis. Jack Shepherd, who played the title role, and other members of the cast and crew, elected not to make any further episodes in protest at the refusal to reinstate Yuill following his recovery.moreless
