  • Finally, a Storm-centric episode

    7.5
There's a Catch 22 with Storm's stories. It's always nice to see Storm take the forefront (since she's one of my favorite characters), but the problem when this happens is, her stories always seem so out of place with what usually goes on in the X-men's world. Oddly this is something the original cartoon suffered with as well. I appreciate the ties to her African heritage, (me being African myself) but in keeping everything so based in Africa, including adversaries we'll never meet again, these episodes inadvertently keep disconnecting Storm from the rest of the team. I should note one really cool bit of business:

Because of Storm's confusion and sorrow in this episode, the entire town was shrouded in fog until she felt better. Fantastic touch! And a great attention to her abilities.moreless
  • The gathering Storm

    8.7
This episode reveals Storm's past as a "godess" in an African village. It also reveals the fact that Storm suffers from claustrophobia.

The village's new "god", the Hungan, desires Storm's powers for himself. He captures her and steals her powers. His plan was perfect, except for one thing: he didn't count on the X-Men coming to save her.

Actually, Spyke saves Storm, by using his senses (even if he missed his training sessions) and destroys the Hungan's power staff.

    So Spyke's the hero.moreless

  • TRIVIA (2)

    • Trivia: After Storm's days as a thief in Cairo, she traveled south, near Mount Kilimanjaro, where a tribe worshipped her as a goddess, praying to her to bring the rain. Storm developed claustrophobia after being buried alive in a terrorist attack in Cairo as an infant. The attack claimed the lives of her parents.

    • When Storm is sleeping in her bed going "no..stay back...STAY BACK!" and she sits up awake, look at the pillow behind her, there's only the top-left corner of the pillow. The rest of the pillow is invisible.

  • NOTES (3)

    • This episode along with "Beast Of Bayville," "Adrift," and "On Angel's Wings" are available on the DVD X-Men Evolution: Powers Revealed.

    • A Hungan is the name given to a male practioner of Voodoo. Since Voodoo has its roots in the ancient African theology, then it makes sense that the Hungan is also the name of an African Shaman, or Witch-Doctor

    • Storm's claustrophobia was mentioned many times in the original X-Men series. This episode shows the first Evolution use of her fear.
