  • I feel like this is the millionth time Wolverine has run off into the woods. At least Nightcrawler didn't tag along here, again.

X23 get's a followup episode. I'm glad to see her back, but I didn't find her very likable this time around. Her character doesn't seem to have changed at all- she's still angry and it's weird seeing her talk to Wolverine with no show of respect whatsoever. She's being hunted, and they won't stop until she's dead (Hmmm, foreshadowing on the predictable spiel they pull at the end?).

Interestingly Gauntlet and Omega Red debut here. I was underwhelmed by both. Gauntlet I've never heard of, but Red is a well-known villain of Logan's. He's not very interesting here, and basically could have been Sabertooth and it would have made no difference.moreless
  • X-23 is back, Wolverine is kidnapped and Omega Red is introduced. All in the same episode.

    8.3
This episode was great, with a well written script and cool animation (as always), this episode was impressive. The only disappointment there was, was the major villain, Omega Red. I know it's weird, but a lot of fans (myself included) felt that his character was nothing compared to his previous appearances on X-Men: The Animated Series back in the '90's. He has to be one of the few characters that don't look better within the series.

The plot was adventurous, and the fight scenes were good. The introduction of a new villain (which we will never see again) was kind of a stupid move, if you ask me. But considering how bad Omega Red turned out to be, I guess it was all for the best. Also, note that Omega Red seems to know about Wolverine, but this plot will never be dealt with again, since the show won't bring Omega Red back for any other episodes.

Overall a good episode, if you were wondering what happened to X-23 after she fought Wolverine and ran away, watch this episode and you'll see. Also, this episode features the return of Nick Fury, who'll play a minor role in the upcoming episodes. This episode isn't a masterpiece, but it is worth watching.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (3)

    • Omega Red names off the members of the Weapon X program: Wolverine, Sabertooth, Maverick, and Silver Fox. This marks the first and only time Maverick and Silver Fox are mentioned in the series.

    • The duffle bag X23 was carrying had the X symbol on it. Where did she get it from? She did not have it when they were captured. Why would Hydra have an X-Men Duffle bag lying around? Are they fans of the show or something?

    • When Logan in captured by Hydra, he is wearing his street clothes and his right shoulder is exposed through a rip. In the next scene, he is in his uniform. Even if he had his uniform on under his street clothes the right shoulder should have been ripped open.

  • QUOTES (1)

    • X23: You should have healed by now.
Wolverine: Give me a break, kid. I started the morning by falling out of an airplane.
      X23: You're slowing me down!
Wolverine: Yeah, well I ain't as young as I used to be. But thanks for the concern.

  • NOTES (6)

    • The exploding of the command ship scene was similar to the exploding lab scene in "Grim Reminder."

    • X23 is voiced by Brittney Irvin in this episode instead of Andrea Libman.

    • At the end, Scott ricochets an optic blast between the New Mutants to split an apple. This is an ability that he's had for quite a while in the comics - he's very good at assessing visual-spatial relationships and ricochet angles (translation: don't play pool against him), and it's nice to see that here.

    • In the comics, Omega Red is Arakady Rossovitch, the original Russian Super Soldier. By using a device called the carbondium synthesizer, the Russians attempted to duplicate to some extent the Weapon X program (the program that created Wolverine and Sabretooth among others). However, someone screwed up and instead of an accelerated healing ability, Omega Red ended up with an accelerated life draining ability. Also, with nifty carbondium tentacles.

    • This episode also features HYDRA, the evil version of SHIELD.

    • The animal Omega Red pulls out of the bushes is a "Wolverine". How ironic.
