  • One of my favorite characters, Shadowcat, is introduced.

Kitty Pryde, a young Jewish Girl, is starting to phase through objects, this ability is alarming and confusing for her, and I think the show does a good job delving into this. She is teased and bullied by other mean girls at her school. We are also introduced to Avalanche, who has a penchant for trouble, and is quickly established as a bad boy who doesn't play by the rules. The two seem to make a brief connection, but Lance is obviously a bad influence on Kitty, and seems to be just using her for his own personal gain.

    Both characters are established well.moreless
  • Here comes the Kitty pity party! (And Lance "The Hottie")

This episode is focusing on Kitty "Shadowcat" Pryde and her dealing with new powers - phasing. Also, there's another new mutant, right in her school - no one other than Lance "Avalanche" who looks absolutely hot in EVO. While trying to deal with her phasing, Kitty finds herself vulnerable, and therefore she falls right into Lance's (open) arms. Luckily for her, Jeany pity party is there to help her cope with everything. While demonstrating her how powers can be dangerous (well, lets be honest, she did have a little bit of help from Lance), Jean succeded in persuading Kitty to come to Institute, and train with the almighty X-men.moreless
  • Great Episode. They make Kitty into sort of a valley girl, but it\'s tolerable. I love that they showed Kitty\'s temper flare several times during the episode.

Great Episode. They make Kitty into sort of a valley girl, but it\'s tolerable. I love that they showed Kitty\'s temper flare several times during the episode. Rumors around that they might even bring in Lockheed at some point. Great series so far. Love the music, animation is great, characters are tops.
  • good episode

Warning: this episode is actually better than i write about it!

This episode introduces Shadowcat and Avalanche. Kitty starts exhibiting mutant abilities, and she meets Avalanche, who says he can help her.

1.Introduction of my 2 fave characters

2.They show another place, not just Bayville

3.SOMEBODY in xmen evolution has parents

    1.Sabertooth vs Wolverine. Boring subplot.

2.Xavier doing nothing 2 get Lance and telling Jean to doo all she can 2 get kitty. This seems actually unfair 2 lance as its him whos got the powers that can pose real threat not only 2 him but 2 others, he seems 2 B harder to make an xman than kitty. hes an orphan and needs help, while Xavier goes straight 2 kitty with parents nice house etc and generally treating lance like an obstacle to avoid.

That pissed me off a bit.moreless
  • A new X-Man joins the team.

Kitty Pryde (aka Shadowkat) joins the team after being saved by Jean and Cyclops from Avalanche.

It's not very well explained here, but as I know from the comics, Kitty is jewish. Also, episode "On Angel's Wings", later in the series shows us more details of her religion.

So, this episode isn't as good as the previous one, but still it's pretty good, as another X-Man joins the cast.

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (5)

    • Trivia: Kitty Pryde is from Northbrook, Illinois.

    • Trivia: Wolverine has two motorcycles. He uses one when he's in uniform (the blue sleek one) and one when he's in his street clothes (the red one).

    • At the beginning, when Kurt is late for school, wouldn't Principal Darkholme feel Kurt's fur or at least a glove instead of skin when she grabs his wrist to "check his watch"?

    • Look at the door when Jean and Xavier are out on the porch of Kitty's house...right after they close the door and leave them outside, the door no longer has a peephole and the design of the door's wood is completely different...its not the same door.

    • When Kitty is with Lance in the office, he pulls out a diskette from the computer... but it's coming out backwards! When you pull out a diskette, the metallic covering is on the inside, not the outside.

  • QUOTES (10)

    • Preppy Girl: Kitty Cat's got a temper!

    • Preppy Girl : Riley, check the Kitty pity party.
Riley : Dreading P.E. no doubt, probably the only class she's not acing.

    • Kurt: (about Sabretooth) Heh! We showed him. We are the X-Men!
Logan: I don't fight your battles, so don't fight mine!
      Kurt: Ahh, he loves us.
      Cyclops: Oh yeah, big time.

    • Sabertooth: One shall fall by the other's hand. Our destiny, we can't change it.
Wolverine: I didn't know that you went for that philosophy mumbo-jumbo!
Cyclops: Hey, hairball! I got your destiny right here!

    • (After Kitty's parents close the door on Xavier and Jean)
Jean: Next time, let's just call and get hung up on. Less hassle.

    • Kitty: I don't have any gifts, just a curse.

    • Lance: We're in control now. We make our own way!
Kitty's Father: Kitty, I pushed you to this, I know. I wanted to pretend nothing was wrong. I'm not perfect. I'm learning just like you are.
      Kitty: Daddy?
Lance: Forget them. I'm bringing this place down!
Jean: You called your gift a curse. If you go with him, I guarantee it will be.

    • Kurt: Should we take the X-Van?
Scott: Uh, a lower profile I think...and cooler. Besides, you com'n?
      Kurt: Hit it.

    • Kitty: No, you're just like some freak! Leave me alone!
Lance: You can run but you can't hide. Cause I'm gonna rock your world.

    • Scott: (As Kurt hits his car door) Whoa whoa! Watch the door panel! They're smudge-resistant not dent-resistant.

  • NOTES (6)

    • Stepping away from his originally husky comic-book physique, Avalanche was given a total make-over for the new animated series. An interesting fact is that from his hairdo, to his civilian wardrobe and even some of his attitudes, Lance was molded for Evolution from another X-character, "Riktor," former member of "X-Force." Even though most fans always considered Riktor to be an Avalanche variation -- rip-off almost. Also in the comic books, wherever you found Avalanche it would most probably mean that Pyro could be near.

    • This episode marks Sabertooth's first speaking appearance.

    • Sabertooth's design for the series certainly takes influence from Taylor Maine's portrayal of the character from the X-Men movie, with the brown trenchcoat and more cat-like features than his counterpart from the FOX X-Men cartoon.

    • In the comic book, Avalanche's name is Dominic Petros.

    • Far from being the "bubble-headed" girl depicted in the series, Kitty Pride was outstandingly smart in the comic books. Kitty was the youngest member ever to be admitted into the X ranks (the old series gave this honor to Jubilee and this series did the same for Spyke). Kitty is also a computer genius and respected (and sometime prosecuted) hacker.

    • Introductions: Shadowcat, Avalanche.
