  • Katnappe becomes Chase's apprentice... it feels unoriginal.

    7.5
Katnappe plus Chase equals to trouble, for the viewers that is. Katnappe is not the most interesting villain and neither is Chase for that matter. Wuya livened things up a bit but now Katnappe has made it all boring. Jack and Omi team up together and made it even more boring. Basically, not one of my favourites and never when Chase Young is around. I wish to goodness Chase would not appear so much and instead give credit to, say, Vlad or some other new villain. Generally, this show is going uphill, but it needs more comedy, which rarely comes when Chase is around.moreless
  • Great episode. Chase Young appears again. I can't believe that Chase Young is actually fighting the Warriors now. Looks like the Heylin forces has a very powerful ally now. Also, Katnappe makes a comeback after so long.moreless

The show starts out with the Warriors training to fight against their new and most powerful enemy-Chase Young. As the game was all about trickery and deception, Raimundo quickly tricks Omi as he starts climbing the pile of rocks. Clay also tricks the young mock as he starts climbing. Omi, now furious races up and still came to first place, when Kimiko fakes injury and kicks Omi down as he was offering assistance. Kimiko wins and the others tell Omi that he is just too trustworthy. Back at Jack's lair, he has built a new Robo-Jack which disobeys him and they get into a fight when Chase Young appears on his computer screen and tells Jack that he has a mission that will lead him to become his apprentice. He accepts but finds out that he has to go against Katnappe. A new Shen Gong Wu revealed itself naming the Woozy Shooter. As the Warriors reach there, Jack is facing even more trouble when he continues fighting with his creation. As the Warriors reach the place, they are quickly pummeled by their own Umi-Bots. Katnappe jumps down and snatches away the Woozy Shooter when Jack Spicer appears on top of the hill. Chase Young annonces that he accepts Katnappe as his apprentice and that Jack has got his pity. The Warriors return to the temple, sulking after their robots betrayed them, when Jack appears and tells them that his robot has locked him outside his house. Omi quickly takes Jack in as a Xiaolin Warrior. The next day, Jack is bullied by the others as he is forced to wake up so early and do all the chores, while the Warriors get to rest. Then, at night, Katnappe comes and uses the Umi-Bots to steal the Warrior's Shen Gong Wu, but gets find out by Clay. The Warriors are then put under the effects of the Woozy Shooter, making them all goofy. Then, Jack comes and saves the day by using the Reversing Mirror, right after the Umi-Bots kick the Warrior's butt. Then, the Warriors execute their signature moves and quickly destroys their own Umi-Bots. But, after that, Jack becomes evil again and gets away with some of the Warrior's Wu. Katnappe is put under the guardian of the Warriors but just when she wanted to steal some Wu, Omi manages to stop her saying that Kimiko fixed the Umi-Bots and that she can play with them so that she would not be so lonely. Katnappe quickly makes a deal with Omi to get back his Wu, but only if he kept it a secret. Omi promises and together they rush to Jack's mansion and try their best to get back their Wu. Jack appears and fights them until he and Omi launch a Xiaolin Showdown. Jack Spicer loses, but Katnappe escapes with all the remaining Wu. Later, it is revealed that Omi was actually being watched by Chase Young and that he has tasted evil. Meanwhile, the Umi-Bots trick Katnappe and the Warriors managed to get back all their Wu thanks to Kimiko for fixing them. Back at the temple, Omi tells the other that he has master the art of deception!!!!!moreless
  • After the disappointing "The New Order", comes a good episode that focuses on Jack Spicer.

    9.0
The Apprentice was a very good episode that I enjoyed very much due to the animation, music, comedy and the plot.

The beginning was exciting and it was great to see Kimiko win. Jack's house part was sad as I really think Robo-Jack was annoying as he was in "The Shard of Lightning". It was actually quite good to see Katnappe using the Woozy Shooter. I also liked Master Fung's reaction to Jack being in the temple. I think it was great that he was insistent on Spicer.

The showdown theme was great and I liked how the balloons were and how the truth of both Omi and Jack were revealed. The only part of the episode I disliked was the U-Bots betraying them.

Overall, this episode is great as it did dig deeper into Jack Spicer.

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (3)

    • When Jack Spicer falls asleep after his first day, he is in his Xiaolin Robes. But, when Jack arrives during the warrior's battle with the minibots, he is in his Frankenstein Pajamas. Although Jack could have changed in the time in-between, judging by how deeply Jack fell into sleep and how drowzy he was as he emerged during the battle, it was a clothes mix-up.

    • The reversing mirror is supposed to reverse the effects of Shen-Gong-Wu, but in this episode Jack uses it to deflect Katnappe's woozy shooter attack back at her.

    • In other episodes, the Orb of Tornami was about the size of Omi's head. When he pulled it out in front of Jack's quarters, it could fit in the palm of his hand.

  • QUOTES (10)

    • Omi: I have 4 aces.
      kimiko: He's lying.
Raimundo: The dude is playin us.
Clay: We got him this time.
Omi: Read them and begin your weeping.
Raimundo: That's read'em and weep. And I'm about to.
Clay: Aw, how do you win every hand?
Omi: It is most simple, I cheat. (everyone stare angry at him) (Omi laughs again) No, I am a liar when I say I cheat.
Kimiko: How do we know you're not lying to us now?
Omi: Because, you are all my friends. I could never lie to my friends. (Omi laughs) I have mastered deception. let's play again. (everyone throws cards and leave) (Omi slides card up sleve).

    • Omi: Hee hee, I did it, I have acomplished xiaolin liar.
Dojo: You had some day there champ. (Dojo count while talking) You lied your head off, broke into a lair, cracked open a safe, and (looks confused) had a girl beat up. Mmm.
Omi: Yes fighting on the side of good is most rewarding.

    • (Omi and Jack both touch the Monsoon Sandals at the same time)
Omi: Jack Spicer, I challenge you to a Xiaolin Showdown! The game is Truth or Lies! Last to fall wins!
Jack: My Lotus Twister, against your Silk Spinner!
      Omi: Let's go! XIAOLIN SHOWDOWN!
(Thousands of balloons float up, each with one of three Chinese words on it: Shi ('yes', or "true"), Bu ('no', or "false"), and Zhong (equivalent to "middle ground"). Jack is standing on a "true" balloon, and Omi is standing on a "false" balloon.)
      Both: GONG YI TAMPAI!!
Omi: Jack Spicer, telling the truth is definitely not your element!
Jack: Yeah, but snakey is. (pops Omi's balloon with the blade of his Heli-Bot)
Omi: AHHH!! (lands on a "middle ground" balloon; bounces back up and lands on Jack's ballon. This forces Jack to jump backwards onto another balloon (a "true" balloon), which Omi pops.)
Jack: WHOOOOAA!! (He falls, but soon comes back up on a "middle ground" balloon.)
Omi: Jack Spicer! Truth or Lie? You seek world domination because you feel small and worthless?
Jack: Lie! (His balloon spins around, and shows the word "false".)
      Omi: No! Truth!
      (Jack's balloon pops)
Jack: WHOOOAA! (lands on a "false" balloon.) My turn! Truth or Lie? You work so hard as a Xiaolin Monk because you know you're an oddball geek with a big head?
Omi: Ha! That is most ridiculous! Lie!
(His "middle ground" balloon spins around, and shows the word "true" on it.)
Jack: But you do have a big ego!
Omi: No, my ego is the right size!
(His word "true" quickly flips to a "false", and pops.)
      Jack: You lied!
      Omi: WHOOOOOA!
      Jack: Ha!
Omi: Silk Spinner!! (snags onto the bottom of Jack's balloon.)
Jack: (fights to keep his balance on his wobbling balloon) Who-ah-ah-ahhh!
      (Omi leaps to another balloon.)
Omi: (brandishing his Silk Spinner at Jack) Truth or Lie? Did you steal the Shen-Gong-Wu because you feared that you would fail at good just as you have failed at evil?
Jack: (scoffs) Jack Spicer? Fail? Lie!
Omi: No! Truth! (Jack's 'false' balloon pops into a 'true' balloon) Truth! (Jack's 'true' balloon pops into a 'middle ground' balloon) And MORE Truth! (Jack's balloon pops for good, and he screams as he falls.)
Jack: WHOOOA!! Lotus Twister!! (His arm stretches and snags around a 'middle ground' balloon. He breaths a silent sigh of relief.) Did you really believe me when I agreed to turn good? Or did you just take me in because you wanted to prove your friends wrong?
Omi: I believed you! (His features sadden) And you disappointed me... Deeply... (His balloon spins from 'middle ground' to 'true'.)
Jack: (surprised) Really? Well...! You shouldn't have! I was planning to turn on you all along! (His balloon spins to show the word 'false'.)
Omi: You lied...! (Jack's balloon pops, and he screams as he falls, and falls, and falls...) You DID try!
(Showdown ends; Omi is the winner).

    • (Omi and Katnappe sneak into Jack's house)
Omi: (busts down the door with a flying kick) Hyah! Time for my revenge, Jack Spicer! (aims a flying kick at Jack, and connects. Jack's head comes flying off.) Huh...? (The head rolls to a stop in front of Omi, and his eyes bulge, as he leaps into Katnappe's arms.) AAHHH!!! I DID NOT WANT THAT MUCH REVENGE!!
Katnappe: Eh, that's just one of his stupid robots. (pushes Omi off, leaving him on the ground still staring wide-eyed at Robo-Jack's severed head.)

    • Jack: (yawns, and stretches) Hey guys, what's going on?
Katnappe: Four monks down, and one whiny geek to go.
      Jack: I'M NOT WHINY!!
Katnappe: (pulls out the Woozy Shooter) Whoozy Shooter!
Jack: (scowls, and pulls out the Reversing Mirror) Reversing Mirror!
(This catches Katnappe off-guard, and she yowls as she gets a faceful of purple smoke.)

    • Jack: My only goal in life was to be the world's biggest jerk... and I even failed at that.

Omi: If it would make you feel better... I will always think of you as a jerk.
      Raimundo: Me too!
      Kimiko: The stinkiest!
Clay: Like roadkill in July! Jack: (Hugging them all) Thanks you guys... it's good to know that you can enemies you can count on...
Omi: (Gasps) THREE SECOND RULE! (Jack drops them)

    • Omi: I will not let you up!
      Master Fung: Down.
Omi: (Coming in from top of screen) In any direction!

    • Chase: You've proven yourself. I welcome you as my new apprentice.
Jack: (jumps into Chase's arms) Oh, thank you! Thank you! All I can say is ... Jack Spicer has arrived!
Chase: Ugh, three second rule! (drops Jack)).

    • Chase Young: Katnappé has won the apprentice position. You have won my pity.
Jack: So, in a way, we're all winners.

    • Chase Young: You are a pathetic excuse for an evil boy genius.
Wuya: And he can't even dress himself! Look! Different colored socks!
Jack: Hey, I just have trouble with my reds and browns!
